When the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebels were rampaging Sierra Leone during the last decade of the 20th Century, Nigerian Government sent several combat units and an Executive Protection Team to help stabilize the government of President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah. The Protective Security Team had the mission of providing personal protection to the President and members of his family. The Team was also responsible, along with other Nigerian military units, for the physical security of the State House (President's Office), and Presidential Lodge (President's Residence) in Free Town. As the head of the Nigerian Protective Security Unit, I was responsible for the:- Close-in security of the President, and the overall operations of the Protective Service.- Detailing Security Advanced Party (SAP) whenever President Kabbah or the First Lady of Sierra Leone was on official visits both within and outside Sierra Leone.- Planning and implementation of physical security measures at the State House and the Presidential Lodge.- Preparing security reports.
