Profile bio

About Ibrahim Saeed

I'm an R&D biomedical engineer at MiRus, and BME grad from GT, motivated to improve health outcomes for those in need via the user-centered design of wearable, implantable, and interventional medical devices. Here at MiRus on the TAVR team, I'm working on the testing of the Siegel MoRe transcatheter aortic heart valve, a stronger, more biocompatible valve designed to replace diseased aortic valves and improve patient outcomes. Previously, on the ortho team, I designed and optimized mechanical fixtures in CAD, FEA, and through 3D printing to expedite engineering processes. I completed a comprehensive bill of materials of an entire product line, and integrated client needs into design updates for existing products, going from pen-to-paper ideation to manufactured tools ready for commercial distribution. At Georgia Tech, my experience spanned the product development lifecycle, including background research, CAD proof-of-concept, manufacturing, and V&V through mechanical testing and stakeholder feedback. Researching in the biomedical mechatronics lab at GT, I analyzed the material qualities of non-ferromagnetic alloys for use in minimally invasive, MRI-compatible surgeries. I also 3D printed and assembled artificial muscles for a robotic arm with medical applications. In my Capstone project, I designed the Elbow Greaser - in SolidWorks and physically - a bimodal elbow orthosis that manipulates moments about the elbow to augment lift for users with bicep deficits so they can eat independently. This device was tested for critical criteria, achieving 90% of the target metrics of concealability and ROM. Across and throughout my medical device projects, I consulted with patients, physical therapists, fellow biomedical engineers, and orthopedic surgeons to iterate and validate my devices to ensure they met user needs. I view biomedical engineering as a healing profession, and each day over the next 5 years, I want to jump-start my early career by gaining dynamic R&D experience through which I refine medical devices and patient experiences, improving the world 1 life at a time. Interested in improving the world of health? Let's connect.
