Ibrahim I. is a Principal Geophysicist at GEOPHYSICO. He possess expertise in seismology, data analysis, structural geology, testing, sequence stratigraphy and 7 more skills. He is proficient in Korean. Colleagues describe him as "Dr. Ilhan and I were teammates working on land environmental hazard assessment and marine survey (e.g. cable route selection) projects using various geophysical instruments. These include electromagnetic, GPR reflection and refraction, magnetic, resistivity, multi-beam bathymetry and side-scan sonar, chirp and boomer sub-bottom profiler, marine magnetic, etc. Our responsibilities were to acquire, process and interpret data, prepare data deliverables, and write reports and new proposals. Dr. Ilhan was a dedicated colleague and contributed immensely to the successful executions and completions of those projects we worked together. " and "Kirk W. Sherwood, PhD U.S. BOEM (Agency/U.S. Dept. of Interior)—Retired September 09, 2020; Cooperating Scientist I became acquainted with Dr. Ibrahim Ilhan through his research investigations (under Professor Bernard Coakley, University of Alaska—Fairbanks) of the Northwind basin within the larger Chukchi Borderland, located in the vicinity of the U.S.-Russia maritime border in the Chukchi Sea (northwest of Alaska). Since 1987, as a geologist with the U.S. Department of Interior agencies (Minerals Management Service, succeeded in name by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management) responsible for resource assessment and development on the U.S. continental shelves, I was responsible for geological characterizations of the U.S. Chukchi shelf. Industry seismic data available to my agency on the Chukchi shelf covered U.S. waters south of 73º north latitude and east of 169º west longitude. This area is largely south of the more northern and remote Chukchi Borderland, which remained largely unknown through the 1980’s and 1990’s. Ilhan and Coakley sought and received funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation for a gridded 2D seismic survey of parts of this large, ice-choked area. The main goals of the 2011 expedition included: 1) extending geologic control from the established seismic and well data on the Chukchi shelf south of 73º north latitude; and 2) of profiling the deep structure of the rugged seafloor ridges and basins (observed in bathymetry) that suggested tectonic fragmentation of the Northwind basin and the larger Chukchi Borderland. The data and insights obtained by the Ilhan-Coakley project complete a unique piece of the complex tectonic puzzle presented by the Chukchi Borderland among the other features of the Arctic oceanic region and reconstructions of its origins. I have attended presentations by Coakley and Ilhan on this work and consulted with Ilhan on his interpretations during preparation of his dissertation. I served as a journal technical reviewer for manuscripts (to Marine Petroleum Geology (MPG) and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)) reporting the results of the Northwind survey. The MPG manuscript has been published and the AAPG manuscript is in review/revision. Dr. Ilhan has conducted a highly comprehensive and commendable analysis of the complex seismic stratigraphy of the Northwind basin. Ilhan skillfully integrated his detailed observations of the 2011 survey with gravimetric, magnetic, and bathymetric data to obtain a unified interpretation. Ilhan’s detailed analysis of multiple data suites was carried out with an eye toward the implications to greater issues of basin tectonics and regional reconstructions of lithospheric plate interactions. Dr. Ilhan is a highly energetic, imaginative, and enthusiastic geoscientist and would form a valuable asset to any technical geosciences organization. "
