My team is responsible for building platforms, tooling, and libraries to facilitate web development across all engineering using Vercel, NextJS, LaunchDarkly, and core component libraries.Our current initiatives are:• Moving all our UIs and reusable component system to a monorepo so updates flow to every dependent application in a safe and tested way as part of the same PR.• Building a "Canary Router" to allow us to migrate our remaining UIs safely and responsibly by utilising a percentage-based feature flag to route traffic. This decreases our MTTD times and allows us to achieve continuous delivery. Through this initiative, my team has cut delivery times from up to nine hours to a few minutes.

My team is responsible for building and maintaining Pie's rating and decision engines (algorithms) to determine how to proceed with a submission (basically, a request for a quote). This result could be rejection, referral to underwriting (for further evaluation), or generating a quote/price for the submission.Our initiatives are:• Driving towards self-service solutions whereby our stakeholders can modify their data independently without our intervention.• Supporting the development and training of new pricing models. This initiative allows us to build and utilise our datasets vs 3rd party.• Build the new pricing and decisioning engine for Commercial Automobile Insurance as part of our existing Workers' Compensation Insurance engine. This initiative allows a single engine to support multiple lines of business vs supporting multiple, different engines.• Modifying the engine to support multiple carriers (underwriting entity routing based on, e.g., calculated/desired risk). This initiative allows Pie to write against multiple companies to spread risk and allows us to price competitively.

We support regular, in-page usage (like YouTube), embeddable into other Workday apps, and browser-based mobile use. I was at a crossroads in my professional development a Workday, having worked myself into a position where I could no longer see a viable, long-term career path. I had to decide: return to the full-stack UI space or expand on my operationalisation work and experiment with a 6-month DevOps rotation through our Delivery Engineering org on the Production Engineering team. Flow is a Workday application that allows developers to build conversational flows between applications using NLP.Originally written as a stand-alone UI application, it needed to be returned to the Workday UI. I own this process which includes wiring the UI into the Workday stack, migrating the UI from a web server to Workday's Static Asset Service (CDN) and included writing a generic NodeJS API to interact with the CDN, migrating from Bitbucket and Bamboo to GitHub Enterprise and Jenkins, and building new Jenkins pipelines for building and testing the application.

As the only remote IC in Boulder for the CA teams, I'm wearing many hats helping other teams become assimilated into our collective concerning operations, CI, testing, etc...Rebuilding the UI to be more React-like (application component tree and state management), moving the business logic to be close to the components for which it's meant, and simplifying UI artefact deployments.

Software is only as good as the foundation upon which it's built. Workday Worksheets was a startup acquisition, and the architecture of the core grid rendering, scrolling, and selection logic was no longer maintainable in its current form. I wrote a Technical Strategy document and, with a Jr Engineer, we experimented with different ways to rearchitect this. We reverse-engineered how other software products (Microsoft Excel for the Web and Google Sheets) handled this and captured performance metrics for our experiments and the solutions from Microsoft and Google.After our research and experiments, we showed that a homegrown solution was better than incorporating a 3rd party library, and it was twice as fast at rendering as Google Sheets. This work resulted in a 2900% increase in rendering speed from 2 FPS to 60 FPS.I presented these findings to leadership and got the go-ahead to form a new team whose initiative was to architect a reusable sheet viewer React component on top of an HTML5 canvas and change the data fetching logic to match.Abstracting the sheet away from the consumers allowed us to own the critical pieces around performance and selection.My work centred on building the unit and integration testing infrastructure using Docker containers, Jest image snapshots, and TestCafé.
