Since June 2018 I've been participating as secretary in the coordination activities between the CERN IT department and the ProtoDUNE collaboration

In 2015 I started a position as a Staff member, while staying part of the CERN Databases group. I focused on the Database of Demand platform and service, and designing a new implementation with improved integration with other CERN services and structuring its software componets for extensibility and maintanability.

Starting 2016 I took the role of Service manager for the Database on Demand service. I led the adoption of the newly developed infrastructure components and the introduction as part of the CERN central services of Time Series databases (with InfluxDB).During these two years the service double in size (from over 320 database systems to more than 700) while the reducing the amount of manpower dedicated to operations to less thatn 2 FTEs.

In August 2012, I started a new position within the IT-DB group as a CERN openlab fellow, focusing on research on virtualization solutions and technologies for database operations. During these two years I worked in projects such as:● Integrating and evaluating the performance of network operations on virtual machines using INTEL SR-IOV enabled network cards and Oracle VM Hypervisors.● Testing and evaluating Oracle VM 3.x for its use on CERN infrastructure.● Integrating Oracle VM hypervisors on OpenStack, targeting the setup of the CERN Cloud infrastructure environment.

I joined the CERN IT-DB group on June 2011, thanks to a research grant from the Spanish Minisitry of Research. During my first year here I:● performed a set of benchmarking exercises for comparing the performance of different virtualization solutions and host operating systems for database operations using MySQL in the CERN infrastructure● co-developed the first version of the CERN Database On Demand service, which offers a DBaaS solution for different database systems (currently MySQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL), working specially in the back-end of the service: the development of a a custom job-execution component, and automation of different complex tasks such as database back-ups, recoveries, upgrades, etc.

I joined CSIC after obtaining my engineering degree out of interest for the work they were doing in distributed computing systems as a computing platform for the particle physics community. During my time here I was lucky to work in many different projects, on many different roles: ● Application gridification and support in the Int.Eu.Grid FP6 project (http://www.interactive-grid.eu/), porting and adapting for execution on the Grid a watershed runoff geographical model simulator (SMDR).● Collaborated in the Insitute of Physics of Cantabria (IFCA) contribution to the Spanish TIER-2 for CMS● Collaborated in the CSIC contribution to the FP7 DORII project. I was the main system architect and engineer on the DORII Water Reservoir monitoring application, which consisted of an autonomous floating multi-sensor platform with a three-layered data storing system fully integrated on the Grid environment for data analysis.● Co-designed and implemented a sensor tracking system for monitoring and analyzing geographic displacements of big flocks of sensors (with millions of members) developed using Python, PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
