• Completed a detailed investigation of the current data landscape, identifying and documenting how data was collected, processed, stored and analysed across different teams and job roles. • Worked with the CEO and other SLT members to gain a deep understanding of their short and long-term goals for the business and identify how data could be used to support their delivery.• Engaged with key stakeholders at all levels to understand their information needs and identify specific data analysis or reporting products required for them to make more informed decisions.• This resulted in the creation of a new data strategy and implementation roadmap, covering:• Architecting a new data environment and overarching business data model, building automated pipelines to integrate data from a complex web of systems and create a single source of truth.• Defining KPIs and other metrics, creating automated processes to calculate them and sharing them with audiences across the business via self-service Tableau dashboards. • Creating a new data team with clearly defined roles and responsibilities and a high-performance culture centred on harnessing the value of data through cross-business collaboration.• Building a data-first culture across the business, educating colleagues on the value of good data practice and equipping them with the skills required to use data effectively.• Defining data governance policies, operational controls and data quality standards, implementing trackable metrics to provide compliance assurance and drive improvement activities.• Implementing the new strategy contributed significantly to our bottom-line, including supporting 57% growth in sales from new customers and 17% revenue growth in our rescue business unit in FY22.

Towards the end of 2013, having started a family, I was seeking a better work/life balance. So I decided to move into working as an independent contractor/consultant. Organisations I worked with:Yorkshire Water plc. I led a team developing an operational risk identification and quantification tool, as well as Power BI dashboards that displayed predicted current/future probability of risk event occurrence. Previously I'd been helping them get their data in shape for migration from SAP ECC6 to S/4 Hana. (12 months, 2 extensions)CAP-HPI Ltd. Working with SQL Server 2014 and SSIS/SSDT, I delivered substantial improvements to the performance and quality of their existing code base. I also planned, developed and implemented new code and processes.(9 months, 1 extension)Npower plc. I Managed and enhanced a process for generating revenue assurance analysis, whilst supporting the project delivering its replacement in SAP BW / BO.(10 months, 2 extensions)Univar plc. Designed and built a Data Warehouse, including custom ETL, process automation and data management functionality. The DW was used to feed a Tableau server providing self-service reporting to 1000+ users.It also involved the initial migration of existing MS Access based report data processing to this new environment, as well as ongoing integration of data from a range of different sources.(2 years, 7 extensions)Lloyds Banking Group. Developed new data feeds for an SQL Server Data Warehouse, a data validation framework, a bespoke data transfer tool and a bespoke database release management tool, both using winforms and vb.net. (1 year, 2 extensions)

In this role, I recruited and led a team of analysts and developers, whilst taking complete ownership of the Party's substantial data assets, which were initially in very poor shape. Rebuilt fractured relationships with our regional associations, resulting in an organisation-wide data integration project that greatly increased the amount of data that could be analysed at CCHQ. Overhauled existing data management systems and processes across a substantial SQL Server estate, including delivery of new data governance and data quality processes.Created a campaign targeting engine that used modelled voter characteristics to identify how best to allocate our limited campaigning resources.

In this role I worked with a wide range of clients, producing creative solutions to some very challenging data problems.Some of the projects that I worked on:Worked with a tier 1 investment bank to identify and fix issues with their position reporting process.Led data workstream of a JD Edwards ERP implementation project for a major European drinks manufacturer. Designed a SQL Server model to allow a big four UK bank to estimate its potential group liability to refunds of bank charges. Designed, built and implemented a SQL Server / MS Access application to manage donation compliance returns to the Electoral Commission for a UK political party.Designed and built a full text search engine used to analyse significant volumes of SWIFT messages for the purposes of a financial crime investigation. Designed and built an MS Access application for a healthcare provider to integrate finance data from a number of sources into a single reporting data store. In addition, I was a recognised SQL Server subject matter expert, creating and delivering several SQL Server training courses.

In this role, I managed a team of database analysts and took responsibility for day-to-day data management of a very large SQL Server database, with table row counts in the 10bn+ range. The team's responsibilities covered a wide range, from one-off data fixes through to major data analysis and integration projects.

In this role I procured and prepared data for marketing campaigns and used analysis software (Faststats/Microvision) to aid with campaign planning and targeting. I also produced campaign response reporting and general market analyses for clients.

In this role, I led a team of 4 database analysts, working within a department that serviced the firm's largest client (by revenue). The team's responsibilities covered matching and integration of data from a wide range of sources, often with very poor quality levels, as well as significant reporting and ad-hoc analysis tasks.
