Architecture + Ltd are award winning architects who’s expertise is within the cultural, commercial, residential and interior architecture. During my 2 years at A+ I worked on a few residential alterations including a $1,2 million dollar home in Wellington as well as other house renovation projects. I also worked on a multi-storey building fitout on the terrace, cafes and restaurants. Having been educated as a Draughting cadet by all 3 of A+ Directors at Structon Group Architects, I was able to take on a senior role within the office and coordinated other junior staff members. Transpower house required a total building upgrade which included relocation the plant room to the top floor of the building, installing new mechanical and electrical services, new toilet facilities throughout the building, new carpark ramps and building entries, new lift lobbies & foyers + internal spandrel panels. I was involved with the detailed design and contract management with the contractor L.T. McGuiness.During 2003 I decided that I would establish my own business and with regret left Architecture +. Tetrad’s work included educational, commercial buildings, industrial buildings, apartments and multi-unit housing design. TDG clients included Air NZ, Westfield Queensgate, Massey University, Wellington High School and others. Whilst at Tetrad I was employed as a senior Architectural Draughtsman & coordinated consent documents for some of their smaller projects, such as the Northland School Additions, 6 Multi-unit Developments in Vogeltown, and Wellington High School.I completed tender & consent documentation, communicated with our clients and project consultants, and managed the contract and site instructions where required to do so under the supervision of the Director at Tetrad. I was part of the design team for Massey University and one of my challenges was to measure up the entire building and provide existing and as built dimension for our CAD operator, + co-ordinate all door and hardware schedules of the extg and proposed. The revolving door required new mechanics to be imported from overseas so we had to dismantle and redraw the door piece by piece and then jigsaw it back together on the drawing board and source parts via our contractors that would allow the door to be put back in working order into its original location. After completing several other projects in 2001 Tetrads work declined, and I along with others were made redundant. Show less

SPA were just beginning to establish themselves as a firm of young talented Architects and designers and had a rapidly growing client portfolio. Some of the larger scaled projects in which I was involved with were, Marion Street Apartments (40) for Ebert Construction ($5+million), Stott house ($2million dollar home), and a range of other commercial buildings, including buildings in the South Island. I was the senior draughtsman involved with the detailed design and construction drawings for Marion Street apartments, which required a complex 3D schematic plumbing and drainage layout to meet the requirements of AS/NZS3500. The client & contractor, Ebert Construction required a lightweight (open truss) roof structure that penetrated the cladding and required specific attention to details and truss layouts. I attended Client meetings, produced consent documentation, and was involved with onsite / in office management at times during my time at SPA. In 1997 SPA supported me by allowing flexible work hours as I designed and had built my own family home in Stokes Valley. SPA had a great range of projects and entered competitions on a regular basis with the winning concept for what was to be Wellingtons first Casino on the waterfront + others like the Watermark Project. During 1997 I became a contractor for SPA and completed a few other housing projects and also picked up some of my own work when their construction detailing work was limited. Show less

ASC (Wgtn) was a small practice with around 5 – 6 employees. During my time at ASC we completed nation wide upgrades of all National Banks in New Zealand. We completed many of our projects concurrently and were often assigned individual projects to manage from conception through to completion. This included taking our clients brief, producing sketch plans, co-ordinating the project team of Engineers / QS Mechanical Engineers, completing construction drawings, having the documents put out to tender, awarding the contracts, managing the building consent process and the construction. Site supervision was crucial on all projects due to the project timetable which sometimes required the banks to relocate to other premises and remain open during the construction phase. Individual contracts were also let out to subcontractors for all the joinery. Our team in Wellington traveled from Nelson to New Plymouth during the refurbishments which included historical buildings, new branches, internal fitouts and temporary fitouts. Unfortunately this work came to an end and I was made redundant in 1995 after nearly 4 years. My experience here handling contracts, letting of tenders, and dealing with the contractors was invaluable. Show less
