Developed Mathematical Models to describe Antioxidant depletion in PE-Clay Nanocomposites.Antioxidants are known to increase durability of polyethylene. And, adding clay to produce polyethylene composites improves the mechanical properties when the silicate layers are well dispersed as nanocomposites. Mathematical models have been developed that describe oxygen and antioxidant diffusion within a thick polyethylene nanocomposite layer, and chemical reactions that lead to depletion of antioxidants. Predicted antioxidant degradation is compared to experimental antioxidant profiles measured by oxidative induction time.
