Having made the decision to exit the retail strategist world, I sought out a passion of mine and trained as a Stockbroker. Edward Jones was the perfect platform to hone these skills. I was used to American companies and their client service beliefs was something that I found synergy in. Diversifying my skill set to focus on a 'smaller' local' offering as a whole-of-market fully qualified broker, I advised on investment and protection products. This was an independent role, based on building a business ‘face-to-face’ using the skills, tools and services of the largest US investment firm. I work from my own High Street office with full-time personal assistants.

I bought in to this small vending company to help build on the operational infrastructure and apply corporate policies, procedures and growth plans. I wanted to bring my corporate skills to a more local and 'start-up' level. This involved a very different approach to policy, procedure and strategy, and really tested my ability to diversify from the corporate world. This was extremely challenging due to resource, operational & financial challenges, and I had to think on my feet on a regular basis.

A strategic position I was very familiar with. This was a senior operational role accountable for 132 stores across the south of the UK with 24 direct reports, and an annual turnover in excess of £70m. I thoroughly enjoyed strategising and shaping a retail operation to meet national and global objectives. A pilot for trading and online-store operations cemented the diversity in this exciting but challenging environment. However, after 16 year in corporate retail, I felt that I had stagnated somewhat and needed a fresh challenge outside of the corporate world.
