About Francis Masawi
THE SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SUPPLY INITIATIVE (SESI)The Old Way view of Electrical Power Systems (EPS) focuses only on the following regulated processes as the Electricity Supply Industry whose purpose is only to sell electricity, as a monopoly, to end users with no choice.(a) Power Generation.(b) Transmission System Operations and Wholesale Energy Market Operations - the Single Buyer Model.(c) Distribution Network Operations and monopoly Retail Energy Supply. This monopoly that violates competition laws has resulted in energy poverty in Africa, in spite of its endowment with an abundance of natural and human capital, characterised by these poor results.(i) Energy Accessibility (~ 43%), Reliability (up to 30% unserved energy), Security (poor Power Quality) and load shedding, Affordability (high monopoly prices), no investments in energy infrastructure, low capacity utilisation and high power utility indebtedness. (ii) Unsustainable social and economic development and growth.(iii) A low Quality of Life in Africa. To address these poor performance results, a Sustainable Energy Supply Initiative (SESI) was conceptualised by Energy and Information Logistics Group Limited (EiL) based on a New Way view of electrical power systems whose sole purpose should be to enable the sustainable production of high quality products society demand and can afford as the only sources of revenues and measure of economic development and growth. The SESI, an ICT driven transformational tool, achieves this through the following massive actions:(a) Energy Markets Shaping to allocate risks to parties best able to manage them,(b) Energy conversion Efficiency interventions to reduce energy losses and associated CO2 emissions,(c) Financial Capital Mobilisation from energy, carbon and other markets to invest in energy infrastructure with positive social and environmental impacts and acceptable financial returns.EiL notes that the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) was created in 1995 for members to pool resources and assist each other in times of emergencies, which seems to have been forgotten with all the rampant load shedding taking place. The Zimbabwe Electricity Act of 2002 has provisions that enables energy markets shaping and conversion efficiency interventions. The SESI roll out will therefore commence in Zimbabwe and the SAPPTo find out how the SESI can add value to your business, on the continent of Africa, please call on Mobile and WhatsApp: +263 77 640 4818 or Email: francismasawi@hotmail.com. Managing Director
CurrentEiL has carried out energy audits at many Maximum Demand (MD) customer industrial premises in Uganda and Zimbabwe and has collected customer consumption data in Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It has worked with the UNFCCC Secretariat and GFA Consulting Group to develop a new methodology, for UNFCCC approval, using the collected data, to reduce technical losses in transmission and distribution networks through reactive power compensation at MD customer premises to improve Power Factor and Power Quality. The reduction in technical losses is converted to quantified CO2 emission reductions, which can go towards a country's NDC. Apart from the methodology, a unique financial mechanism that will enable investments in RPC equipment by energy users is being developed in order to reduce the burden of initial investments for the energy users. The energy audits at selected customer premises and the analysis of the MD customer consumption data resulted in the identification of the opportunity for better collaboration between energy suppliers and users for the ultimate customer satisfaction.
Founder And Director
CurrentiTELPLUS Comunicações e Sistemas, Limitada (iTELPLUS) was created and registered in Moçambique in 2003 to assist any person and any enterprise anywhere, especially those in remote rural communities, to access available and affordable information for all their networking, growth and developmental needs through terrestial, wireless and mobile telecommunications infrastructure. Special Advisor Operations
Carried out due diligence of the old organisation and advised the visionary CEO as part of the transformation of EDM in the new business areas of system planning, projects, renewable energy and energy efficiency, power generation, system and market operations, transmission, distribution and commercial. The transformation process involved a new organisation structure, job descriptions and recruitment through a competitive process for directors and managers, which was a first in Mozambique for public companies. The transformation was carried out at the same time efficient services had to be delivered and resulted in a much more effective and efficient organisation than before the transformation. However there is a need to recognise the importance of and implement a decentralised business model with digitalisation if the organisation is not to end up with stranded distribution assets and unsatisfied customers.
Chief Technical Officer
Directing the management of all engineering processes involved in the purchasing, distribution and sales of energy for an electricity distribution company in Uganda.
