About Ifrah Shahdad

I am a robotics engineer turned designer. I started my career transition into User Experience Design while working as a Design Fellow at an Innovation Centre set up at a university in my hometown.After years of programming and designing mechatronic systems, I decided to start from scratch and immerse myself in understanding the fundamentals of UX design. I enrolled in Google's UX Design Professional Certificate in October 2021 and completed five courses. I took up passion and personal projects and have not looked back since. My designs are shaped by insights developed from user interviews and other forms of user research. I am curious about human-product interactions and the art of designing user experiences.     Co-Founded the ’Six Hats Academy’ - a creative maker space for school children to learn robotics, electronics, prototyping and design (www.sixhatsacademy.com).∠ Visited schools and carried out robotics & coding bootcamps.∠ Successfully completed a four month long robotics camp at Lucent Global School, Anantnag, J&K, India.I was primarily responsible for designing robotics & coding curricula for school kids with the aim ofintroducing them to these subjects early on. I taught students programming in C & instructed them in using various autonomous equipment.

    I successfully completed a two-year project funded by the Research Initiative Grant, Malaysia(P-RIGS), titled ”Performance-based Adaptive Modulation of Resistance in a Hand RehabilitationRobot.” My responsibilities included drafting research questions, creation of mathematical models,development of working prototypes, validation of results, & the presentation of papers at conferences.I independently & successfully created autonomous systems for a rehabilitation robot & developed anovel control algorithm for it (using MATLAB and C). The algorithm gave the robot the capability tomodulate force exerted on the users based on their level of disability.

    I took part in team and individual projects focused on developing and controlling automationsystems, biomedical and assistive devices and robots in general. I taught robotics & mechatronicdesign to engineering students. I also worked on Ultimaker 3D printers, 3D Scanner and Epson LaserCutter. I organized & conducted 3D printing bootcamps and design workshops. In addition, I took care of patent drafting & filing for the centre.
