Areas of expertise: BC and Canadian labour market issues, including job quality, low-wage work and living wages, poverty, income inequality, gender inequality, government finance, economic and social policy, including applying a gender and intersectional lens to public policy decisions.Research: I initiate and undertake long- and short-term research projects both independently and in collaboration with larger research teams. I maintain current knowledge of applied economics and public policy research trends and techniques, including new data sources, so that I can provide guidance to research teams and help shape CCPA-BC’s overall research and public engagement agenda.Policy Analysis: I monitor, analyze and report on economic and social policy changes in BC and federally, including government budgets as well as general Canadian economic and labour market trends. I organize and facilitate policy roundtables to ensure our research directly reflects communities’ needs and to engage diverse voices in policy development.Dissemination and Public Engagement: Media is a major focus of my work. I am frequently invited to comment on current public policy issues in press, radio and TV interviews. My research is covered widely in regional and national media. I regularly present CCPA research to policy-makers at the provincial and municipal level, to trade union and professional association members at their meetings and conventions, at academic conferences, as a guest lecturer in university classrooms, and at community events.Capacity Building: I actively participate in community coalitions and have served on advisory boards for a number of community-based research projects. I update the Metro Vancouver living wage annually and support community-based researchers to calculate the living wage for their own communities.
