About Ignacio Albornoz
During the last years I have been focused on bringing technology and sustainability to the cattle industry. Both at Cattler and with Fluence, my goal is to help the cattle ecosystem to modernize and reduce its GHG emissions through technology. On the farm side, we need to face the fact that with a population of 1.4 billion heads and a growing global demand for animal protein specially from Asia & Africa, cattle is not going to just disappear anytime soon, so we need to give the fight from within. It's not enough with alternative meats, at least for the next 15 to 20 years. And along that time, we can make a lot to help this industry to mitigate its own emissions and be profitable at the same time. The good news is that there's a big opportunity to significantly reduce methane, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide emissions generated by cattle farms by increasing the amount of meat produced with the same resources or less, by better managing manure and by applying additives and health products that directly reduce methane emissions. That is what we are doing at Cattler, bringing a platform that will enable farmers not only to be more efficient and profitable, but also to be on top of their environmental impact. On the meat processing side, I work together since 2014 with my partners of Fluence to help meatpackers and other food manufacturers to solve the environmental passive that the slaughter of cattle has brought along with it from many years, and instead of creating more problems to rivers with organic and inorganic pollution, turning those problems into energy resources through biogas plants in the international state of the art, as well as effectively removing nitrogen and phosphorus from those rivers. That is a huge amount of carbon removal from wastewater and water footprint reduction, in the last part of the cattle cycle. These are my passions, and also my mission.
