Villalba De Los Barros Dam
Project Manager. The project includes the construction of a loose materials dam with a clay core, filter, shoulder upstream with rockfill protection, and shoulder downstream over a layer of drain (45 m. high, 450 m. long in crest), creating a reservoir of 106 hm3. Reinforced concrete weir 130 m long (tested at reduced scale in Polytechnic University of Madrid), perimetral gallery 160 m long within mass rock, and tunnel for river deviation across the dam were also executed. According to the Environmental Impact Assessment, all materials (about 1.3 million of cubic metres) were obtained from the reservoir. Drill and blasting methods of excavation were used only in part of the weir, always out of the dam area.Waterproofing treatment injections were performed from inside the perimetral gallery. Instrumentation were implemented with a web-based system that allow real-time consultations of tensiles inside the dam. Also, 3 fiber optical cables were installed along the contact between ground and dam, and in several levels of the dam, to detect possible filtrations across the dam.A full testing laboratory was installed on site.9 archaeological sites were discovered and studied within the reservoir and during the dam construction.This dam ensures the supply to the pool and some other villages (about 100,000 inhabitants), besides allowing some irrigation.Roles and responsabilities: full responsibility on the project, reported to the area manager.
La Plata Highway (A-66) – Plasencia Bypass Section
Project Manager. This project includes the construction of a dual highway 12.1 km long, one viaduct 326 m. The viaduct consisted in a steel beam and concrete superstructure, executed over an existing roundabout that connects with other highway. Eleven underpasses and three overhead crossings were executed.Excavation included drill and blasting, as well as mechanical methods.Soil stabilization with cement 30 cm depth was executed in situ. Burying Of The M30 Highway Puente Del Rey – Avenida De Portugal
This project includes the construction of a tunnel executed between screens: 2.89 km. long in the interior North way, 2.91 km. long in the exterior South way, 2x1.5 km in the junction with highway A-5 Madrid-Lisboa, through clay and sands, typical sub-soil of Madrid. The tunnel consists in a 4-6 lanes highway. The high dense urban environment required dealing with multiple relevant utilities and live traffic during all the construction.The tunnel runs in parallel with the Manzanares River, and has several crossings below and above him. Therefore, important waterproofing assessment and flooding preventions were taken.
