As a student ambassador at the International Programs Office, I had the opportunity to work with international students to assist in the transition into the Augustana community and the U.S. education system. During orientation week, I was able to lead groups of students to familiarize them with campus and the resources that were available to them. Throughout the school year, I provided students with a safe means of transportation to the airport, grocery stores, and other appointments in Sioux Falls. While in the office, I worked on various spreadsheets managing student information and keeping academic data up to date.

During my time at Recreational Services, I had the opportunity to serve in various roles. My role as a team leader provided me with an opportunity to not only grow myself but to foster leadership growth in my team members. As a team leader, I was responsible for a team of 15 students, connecting with them, meeting with them 1-on-1 frequently to discuss performances and concerns, and ultimately assisting in their growth as leaders. One of the most fulfilling parts of this job was organizing monthly campus-wide events for 500+ members of the Augustana community to promote and provide safe recreational events during the weekend. Additionally, with Recreational Services I held positions as a front desk worker and a water fitness instructor.

The research project focused on Angelman Syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder that presents with cognitive, motor, and social deficits. This experience provided me with the opportunity to refine my laboratory skills, troubleshoot, and work in a team with other Augustana students. Additionally, this opportunity enabled me to explore career opportunities in the field of research. My lab partners and I presented our findings at the Arthur Olsen Research Symposium in Augustana.
