Bank of Montreal (BMO) is a Canadian #2 bank. In 2021 BMO started a “Digital Transformation” initiative to become a 100% digital bank by 2025. This implied automating all of the workflows that were still done manually. Many of such workflows were in the Capital Markets sector to which I was hired.My role was to start and lead the development of new Digital Transformation projects. I’ve initially created the foundation for both frontend and backend using the best industry standards. As the foundation was done and more people got hired, I focused mainly on developing frontend (React) and AWS Cloud development/deployment with occasional help on the Java microservices side.My team was the first team in the sector to deliver a complete working solution to the end users.

National Bank is a Candian #6 bank. For a big company, it is very dynamic which is probably an important part of the bank's success. In 2017 a plan appeared to rewrite bank web and mobile front-ends with the latest available technologies. I was hired to be part of that initiative, and by now the new projects reached their maturity and look truly amazing. This was the first time in my life when I used as a client the product that I have developed for an employer other than myself (I use bank retail clients' web and mobile front-ends as a client).I worked on several front-end projects in the bank which all used react but had different technology stacks (react-redux + redux-sagas vs react hooks + contexts, angular, ES6/7 vs Typescript, etc.) so I’ve got a good perspective of what is available in the react front-end world. I also helped (around 25% of my time) develop back-end java microservices using spring boot.One of the most interesting technological things that I have observed while working at the bank were two different approaches of doing microfrontend architecture as well as an architecture to develop web and mobile front-ends at the same time by the same team.

PointClickCare is one of the most widely used web-based Electronic Health Records system in North America. I was involved in developing innovative Web UIs for new subsystems that perform analysis of the EHR data and present the results online in various forms. SAFE is a new-generation enterprise security logging/analysis appliance. RPM Olympia is a lightweight Web 2.0 UI for IBM Rational Portfolio Manager. It uses dojo ajax framework on the client side and RESTful servlets on the server on top of the RPM domain model.The main challenges we had were the complexity and problems of the underlying legacy domain model (~half a thousand objects), very specific requirements for the UI, plus immaturity of dojo framework at that point. Participated in developing "Onsite Hosting Controller" - software solution to centrally manage any internet hosted services for medium/big ISPs and telcos. My main role was Web UI development. The UI was mostly JSP-based with a lot of complex JavaScript on the browser side, resembling a bit modern Web2.0 concepts. The original product was Perl-based. During my employment I was also the key developer to provide migration to J2EE platform.
