As an innovator within Ramboll, I manage and lead a team of experts in tackling emerging and persistent Environmental Health issues. I am a founder and lead at BloomOptix, a team focused on using technology to change how we monitor algal blooms. BloomOptix has raised over $500,000 in innovation grant funding and is focused on delivering equitable, community-driven, and accessible environmental monitoring solutions to various stakeholders including citizen scientists, regulators, academics, and non-profits. Through collaboration, BloomOptix has developed an pocket-sized, AI-powered algal bloom monitoring and data archiving tool, classifying and enumerating cyanobacteria, in the field, in 30 seconds or less. We've also developed methods for drone-based hyperspectral and multispectral remote sensing of harmful algal blooms, sediment plumes and various factors impacting water quality, and introduced new technologies such as submersible ROVs to increase water work safety at Ramboll. I have a widely interdisciplinary research background in Environmental Health Sciences and a drive for the development of community-driven solutions in environmental sciences. I aim to create a more equitable and accessible approach to environmental issues and bring new solutions to underrepresented communities. I have led, designed and conducted research on various water quality and health phenomena including: microcystin toxicity and carcinogenicity in mammalian models; ecological and health impacts of harmful agal blooms; microbial source tracking of fecal contaminants; and COVID-19 epidemiology, immunology and risk management.
