I've been making things on the Internet since 1996. I've designed, planned and built software systems and tools for a wide range of organisations and industries, from tiny start-ups all the way to Silicon Valley tech giants, and I've hired and led development teams from zero to 40 people. As creative technology director at Google's Creative Lab, as well as leading creative agencies Poke and W+K, I've increasingly focused on the application of new and sometimes experimental technologies in fresh and unusual contexts. In the last few years I've worked on installations and events for NBA, Google, Samsung and The Royal Shakespeare Company, a visual disease treatment simulator for Oxford University's Big Data Modelling Consortium, and helped implement 5G edge caching for a rich AR experience in a Korean cultural heritage site.I'm particularly interested in scaling live and interactive experiences online, using tools and processes from large-scale software projects to bring high performance and rock-solid reliability to fresh, innovative and exciting new digital landscapes.• Extremely strong communicator, tech-translator and collaborator with all other business functions.• Solid development background including software architecture, database design, systems integration & administration, deployment, scaling, distribution. Can't help but keep my hands in the code, constantly learning new tools & techniques.• Especially enjoy writing Erlang/OTP code; really happy to have been able to use it for clients and on projects where it really might not have been expected.• Always looking for technically & personally challenging opportunities to make amazing electronic things with amazing electronic people.

Founder And PartnerRvc Ltd. Jul 1997 - Oct 1999I started RVC with two partners, with the aim of providing technical consulting and development services to creative and design agencies in the burgeoning new media environment. Following work for clients including Coca-Cola Schweppes, Central Saint Martins college and an early online music store, we narrowed our focus over time to the development of a Quark XML Xtension, Atomik, enabling automated export of content from Quark documents to structured XML data for repurposing in other media. We secured £100k funding to support the development of Atomik, and RVC was acquired in 1999 by Easypress Technologies (http://www.easypress.com/) who continued the product's development. Easypress now have editions of Atomik available for QuarkXpress and InDesign, with Atomik XML Publisher being distributed by Quark, Inc.
