I am a uniquely trained analyst with diverse and extensive experience across sectors and industries. My professional experience began in the oil, law, and construction industry in Russia and in Iran in 1997-2003. In 2000s, I received Russia/Eurasia research and teaching experience in think tank world (The Brookings Institution) and in academia (University of Louisville, Georgetown University) in 2000s. My OSINT/HUMINT/DD/consulting experience in the private sector is substantial: 100s of projects across industries and policy topics, on PEPs, HNWIs, OCGs, etc. Since 2010, I have worked with a dozen consulting companies, including Sidar Global Advisors, Orbis Business Intelligence, as well as with NGOs, think tanks, and media. My private sector experience was critical for counterintelligence engagements as a confidential human source (CHS) with the FBI Washington, DC Field Office’s Counterintelligence Division in 2017-2020. My CHS work was half OSINT, with OSINT critical to understanding the HUMINT half. HUMINT has greater impact and longer shelf life when backed with a mix of sources and methods. A native Russian speaker, I am constantly submerged in Eurasian affairs: I look for patterns, draw relationship maps, identify latent but significant relationships, events, trends—picking up clues and hints across all sources. I make accurate and insightful observations, and present contextualized and nuanced reports. According to the FBI, I was a highly valued and unusually productive CHS, contributing to over 25 investigations and dozens IIRs. One agent testified (in 2021 SC Durham brought a federal criminal case against me; I was unanimously acquitted by a jury in 2022), I “reshaped the way the U.S. even perceives threats,” and the Office had “set up a new squad of agents based on [my] information.” My strong research areas in Russia and broader Eurasia (counterintelligence experience is some) include: • Industrial and infrastructural development (mineral resources, incl. oil & gas, LNG, defense, banking, etc.);• Strategy, domestic (incl. subnational) & foreign policy, regional policy (Africa, Arctic, CEE, China, Eurasia, MENA), political, business elites, culture, subcultures, nationalism, radicalism, ideology; and• Academia, political activism, media, news reporting, propaganda, disinformation. I am a family man, collector of sociopolitical artefacts, and optimistic realist with a dark sense of humour. I am looking for new opportunities in my broad field and beyond.
