These tests verified the extent of application level voice, video, and data degradation during handovers between mobile train APs (35-50mph) and fixed wayside APs.•Created a MATLAB script suite to quickly analyze debug (Cisco CLI debugs) and throughput (Jperf) outputs seen on the Cisco WLAN test deployment. These scripts efficiently extracted and graphed results pertaining to handover times, throughput (TCP/UDP), received signal strength indication (RSSI), modulation and coding scheme (MCS) rates, AP association, and connection packet retries between the mobile train and fixed wayside APs.•Simulated and conducted RF environment characteristics for WLAN AP pre-deployments using Fluke Networks AirMagnet Survey, Planner, and Spectrum XT along with Anristu/General Dynamics spectrum analyzers. •Created documents used to describe system implementation, configuration, field/factory/engineering testing procedures, and subsystem assemblies.•Lead design engineer for an outdoor-rated (IP66) enclosure to house PoE/PoE+ injectors used to provide IEEE 802.3af/at standard power and IP communications to subsystem devices.•Worked with a dynamic LED sign manufacturer to design signs for an airport train system (station wayside and vehicle) in New Jersey. -
