Science at EPA provides the foundation for credible decision-making to safeguard human health and ecosystems from environmental pollutants. The Office of Research and Development (ORD) is the scientific research arm of EPA, whose leading-edge research helps provide the solid underpinning of science and technology for the Agency. ORD supports six research programs that identify the most pressing environmental health research needs with input from EPA offices, partners and stakeholders. While at EPA, I participated in research and development to improve municipal decision-making of cities and towns across the US for better environmental and human health outcomes. This included mixed-methods social science research and development of digital tools. I also integrated city planning principals into the Agency in ways that re-shaped its approach and priorities. As one of the few social scientists in the agency, I blazed a trail for integrating multiple stakeholder perspectives and human-centered design into R&D to support municipal decision making.

Project assessed sustainability initiatives across 25 U.S. cities. Assessments were based on qualitative and quantitative data gathered on program design, political factors, and program outputs. Logic models link those data to environmental outcomes. Assessments provide decision making value to planners, program officials, and policy makers.I collaborated with the research team to • Develop research design and methodology, and identify metrics for multi-year, multi-issue study. • Evaluated sustainability programs and policies in 25 cities and compiled guide for city planners on policy mechanisms

Over the course of 15 years, Phineus has demonstrated its ability to deliver solid performance through an institutional-strength long/short strategy that combines the best of bottom-up equity investing with macro-analysis. In 2015, Calamos Investments acquired Phineus Partners LP.
