The concept of Eurocean's Youth is to link young Europeans to the maritime world within a unique network. Developed by Surfrider Foundation Europe in partnership with the French Ministry of the Sea, this network will eventually bring together 120 young people from 20 to 27 years-old, coming from each country of the European Union (EU). They will be trained alongside professionals and experts on two main topics: sea-related jobs and shipping. Aiming at exploring the multiple aspects of the maritime world in Europe. My focus will be on the Baltic Sea.

Caleta Tortel, Aysén Region, Chile

This village is built on wooden pathways. It is currently in the transformation phase with tourism and local development. The town used to be fully isolated. Less than 10 years ago Tortel got a road to the village, only the waterway and the internet connection came three years ago. It makes this internship extremely interesting for me, and in the last two weeks, I got many insights into life in Tortel.I will be working at the Entre Hielos Lodge and on the boat of Paz Austral which is both uniquely designed and built by the lovely owners María Paz and Noel. They are the key people in Tortel and many guests travel far here to meet them. My part will be to help to sustain this work that they have started and learn by doing. The tasks vary from the booking system development to guiding at the glaciers. I started by creating a tourism map for Tortel that I will share with the local municipality as well. The work is fully in Spanish and Chileans are known for their own words which will be one of my challenges to tackle.

As a Workshop Coordinator, I was creating new possibilities to learn sustainability practices at Campus Gotland. I facilitated three sustainability workshops: -Open Data as Enabler-Carbon Calculations in Tourism-Circular EconomyAnd, the highlight was creating the 'Sustainable Islands' event which came to be a success!Here are some facts and numbers from the event:-It was organised by four sustainability-related organisations: Envis, GHOST, Food Rescue and Regeneration 2030 from Åland.-Three Rindi’s guilds designed activities: Fire guild, Baking guild and Envis-30 volunteers from five different programs from the Campus participated.-Seven local stakeholders and two from Åland participated as speakers: EnergicentrumRegion GotlandFood RescueYouFoodSpektrumBärkraftKulturomställningStora CoopSustainable Speis. -Eight local sponsors helped make the event happen with the main support coming from Kulturfonden (FIN&SWE)-Around 70 participants were present through the weekend and 100 live streams from Saturday. -Over 1600 people visited the Facebook event page. -16 bags of trash were picked up from the beach during the Beach clean-up These numbers show the interest and potential of developing collaboration and sustainability on Gotland.
