At Korteweg, a medium to large size contracting firm in the Netherlands, in a span of half a year I assisted two main foremen with their daily tasks, overseeing three types of projects and all the stages of construction. The first type was a turnkey development of 152 dwellings, row houses and apartments, for which I oversaw the finishing stages and took part in the organization of and communication with subcontractors, in-house carpenters, suppliers, investors and future inhabitants. The first type was a turnkey development of 152 dwellings, row houses and apartments, for which I oversaw the finishing stages and took part in the organization of and communication with subcontractors, in-house carpenters, suppliers, investors and future inhabitants. The second type were 26 American style bungalows for which I took part in the successful choreography of all the actors of construction: groundwork, laying foundation, structural walls, floors, masonry, custom window frames, roofs and all the installations and plumbing. The final type is a commercial construction that was already in use, for which I oversaw the responses to teething problems of a just in use building. In this internship I got a grip on the importance of the contracting firm and a first insight into how a building is made. Show less
