Ilana Lapid is a filmmaker and educator focusing on impact filmmaking in the areas of personal transformation, healing and environmental conservation. She holds a BA from Yale and an MFA from the University of Southern California. Lapid received a Fulbright in Romania to work with visual stories of Roma children and was an Artist in Residence at the Slifka Center at Yale. She has directed multiple award-winning short films, including the Oscar-qualified “Red Mesa” and “Yochi.” "La Catrina" was a selection of the Women in Film and Television International Showcase, and the binational Femme Frontera Showcase. Her narrative film, “Yochi,” shot in Belize and dealing with the illegal wildlife trade, played at over 30 film festivals around the world. In partnership with governments and international NGO’s, “Yochi” was taken on educational screening tours across the United States, Central and South America, and Tunisia. Lapid is a Professor at the Creative Media Institute of New Mexico State University, where she teaches directing, screenwriting and environmental filmmaking. She is the Director of the Gila Film School, a collaboration with the US Forest Service to create a showcase of films for the Centennial Celebration of the Gila Wilderness, the United States’ first designated wilderness area. Ilana continues to develop and produce projects using visual storytelling as a transformational vehicle for conservation and social impact.
