Currently, I work with elderly patients in a memory care support unit. I patiently and capably communicate with those who have trouble saying what they want. I give them time to respond and treat them as any person should be with respect and care. I am attentive to their needs and prioritize responsibilities if something urgent happens. I have 8+ years of experience in teaching English as a foreign language in both elementary and junior high school classroom settings, as well as one-on-one adult classes in conversational English. Previously, I both led and team-taught English classes in two elementary schools in Makubetsu Town, Japan. While effectively carrying out MEXT curriculum guidelines, I made the classes as engaging as possible for all my 600 students. I made it a point to communicate at a level every one of my students could understand. Before that, I rotated work, leading classes in seven schools in Obihiro, Japan, with children ages 7 to 15. In any one day, I worked with anywhere from 80 to 160 students, coordinating hands-on English lessons in an engrossing way and developing teaching materials for each individual class in each grade. I pride myself in creating a greater cultural awareness between my students, their teachers, and myself. When in Obihiro, I was also tasked with training a current English instructor and supervised some of their classes so that they are now able to teach independently. I am also experienced in: ･translating students' report cards for foreign parents; ･working to reproduce The Obihiro Board of Education's children's series, Books on Morality, in simple, easy-to-understand English with a colleague; ･editing the translations of The Obihiro Racetrack's sign boards and betting explanations; ･making Japanese business cards for The Sierra Nevada Corporation; ･completing many other small proof reading, editing, and translation projects over the years; ･as well as performing quick mental arithmetic in a fast-paced environment. I love learning new things and meeting new people. I regret that I do not have much time to travel more, as I enjoy exploring and eating my way through the places I sojourn. In my spare time, I take care of my pet rabbit and go on hikes. Recently, I have started to forage local plants and mushrooms as well.
