After immigrating to Australia, and having a lot of experience in running a successful cartographycal company in Hungary, together with my partner we founded Mapstart to focus on creating mapping products, especially tourist maps in Victoria.Our most known product is still available at Grants on Sherbrook and it is a tourist map of the Dandenong Ranges.We had numerous contracts and created many maps for Lonely Planet too, the tourist guides.The experience in founding and growing a business did help on the journey to founding my own business after separating and seizing Mapstart's existence.

This opportunity was the first of many on a new continent and a new country. It also provided me with a new area of learning and developing new skills, as Lonely Planet itself was shifting towards new technology.The maps created were a mixture of thematic maps created in Autocad Map nad ARCGIS.I also had the opportunity of coordinating the mapping content creation for various travel books during this time, working with teams of 2-3 cartographers.This experience was a great opportunity to learn about working in teams in Australia and gaining experience in creating productive working culture within teams, and most importantly learning about how to co-ordinate a team working remotely!

I had the privilege to start working with Pannoncart before I had a chance to become a Partner and Director in the company, until we sold Pannoncart in 2008 before immigrating to Australia.Pannoncart was a leading, innovative cartography company in Hungary in the middle of a big shift in Cartography in general, going from hand drawn maps to computer aided map creation.I had the privilege to be part of an ever growing and changing industry and company.As a Director and Chief Cartographer I worked with a team of freelance and contracting cartographers on a numerous projects in Hungary and in Europe. This is how the maps created by Pannoncart are still used and maintained by other companies even today, and some of the projects we layed the foundation to are still growing today.Here are some of the duties I was responsible while at Pannoncart. •map designing, graphical designing•client liaison, dealing with authorities•coordinating a team of 5-6 freelance cartographers and contractors•prepare contracts, price proposals and time schedules for projects•participate in business planning and assessment of targets according to the local market and regional peculiarities – middle and long term•CAD drafting
