Dr. Ilhan Satman is a professor of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Istanbul Univ. Medical Faculty. She received her MD degree in 1979 and internist degree at 1983. She worked at KFUPM-Saudi Arabia as an internist (1986-1988). She became associate professor in 1991 and full professor in 1997. Her major research interests are immunoprediction of type 1 diabetes and epidemiology of type 2 diabetes. She was a visiting professor at Justus-Liebig Univ-Giessen, Karolinska Institute-Stockholm and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital-London for short periods. Dr. Satman coordinated the population-based diabetes surveys, TURDEP-I and TURDEP-II. She is a member of several national and international associations. She has authored/coauthored over 200 publications, and 400 presentations. She has received funding from European Commission, International Diabetes Federation, Scientific and Technological Research Council-Turkey, Istanbul University Research Fund, Society of Endocrinology&Metabolism-Turkey-SEMT, and Turkish Diabetes Foundation.Dr. Satman chaired Diabetes Div. (2003-2005), and Endocrinology&Metabolism Div. (2012-2018), Istanbul Medical Faculty. She is recently appointed to heading ‘The Turkish National Institute for Public Health and Chronic Diseases’. She served in Executive Committee-SEMT (2005-2010). She is currently chairing Diabetes Study Group-SEMT, and Writing Committee of Clinical Practice Guidelines in Diabetes, and Scientific Board of National Diabetes Prevention and Control Program.
