Goldman was founder and principal of Rooted in Place Landscape Architecture and Consulting from 2012 - 2019 specializing in community engagement and children's outdoor environments.Since studying under and working with Robin Moore at the Natural Learning Initiative at North Carolina Sate University, Ilisa has combined her passion for design, environmental education, permaculture and ecology by specializing in the design of children’s outdoor play and learning environments and has become a and has been a local and national leader in the ‘Children and Nature’ movement.Through her involvement with organizations such as the San Diego Children and Nature, Ilisa helps to educate the design community and raise awareness of the benefits of designing and developing outdoor spaces to enhance children’s nature experiences. Ilisa is also involved with the ASLA, Children’s Outdoor Environments PPN, providing Landscape Architects with professional development opportunities pertaining to designing areas for children to play, learn, and develop a relationship with nature.As a fellow of the San Diego Gathering Places Fellow Training Program, Ilisa is trained in community visioning, design, and community build processes. She has led efforts to activate vacant parcels into public spaces in underserved neighborhoods. In projects such as the City Heights Manzanita Gathering Place and Lincoln Park’s Chollas Creek Crossing, Ilisa led efforts to transform blighted lots into a beautiful, engaging public space that reflected the community’s vision for their neighborhood.Goldman is a skilled presenter, and has the ability to translate difficult concepts into language that community members and those outside of her profession can understand. Her presentations are grounded in the health benefits of outdoor learning areas and green space, especially for children.
