Dr. JS Gravenstein MD (Prof. emer. of anesthesiology, Univ. Florida, USA) and Dr J Feldman MD (Philadelphia, USA) and myself shared the clinical and scientific responsibility of the new publication. Over the time, we also met face-to-face at the international congresses. In 1999, I had a nice opportunity of staying in Gainesville (Fl), while visiting University of Florida.My special editorial assignment was to manage journal's international network of referees. That was mostly organized using telecommunication and Internet, but also meeting them in person at international medical technology meetings. In 2001 our editorial team decided that merger was over and, having run these journals for a decade, wanted give opportunity to new people (giving our recommendations to the published), to continue with the editorial process that had been created.Each of us then continued to other fields of medical publishing: Dr. JS Gravenstein's impact in anesthesiology is known by all. Dr J Feldman became section editor of Anesthesia and Analgesia. I started creating a new web based media for an industry sponsor: In the following years, I created Clinical Window Web Journal as an educational web publication for GE Healthcare. Its goal was to become a truly international e-publication for clinical education: as realization of that target, we could reach 8-10.000 monthly visitors from the clinical community. Finally, it may be mentioned that JCMC was later sold by Kluwer/Lippincott, and currently belongs to the German publisher Springer. Show less

Our teamwork continued with Dr. Reed Gardner, professor of Medical Informatics, at Univ. Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. According to our shared responsibilities, I coordinated inflow of manuscripts (reviewed, revised and occasionally even rewrote) from Europe and the rest of the world, whereas Prof. G handled submissions from USA. Next year, Prof. Gardner was appointed as president of American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), a highly recognized position with significant workload. Since then, I had 100% responsibility to manage all activities (communication with publisher, authors and societies).In 1996-97 I had a key role to negotiate the terms of the merger with editors of a similar journal published in USA (i.e. Journal of Clinical Monitoring). Fruitful discussions with the US journal editors showed us the way how to mold two journals into one; and that resulted to fruitful trans-Atlantic teamwork with the new scientific media. Show less
