I am an applied scientist who studies clean energy and sustainable manufacturing technologies, as well as their material supply chains. I work with an exceptionally talented team of scientists with diverse expertise to apply systems thinking to accelerate the development, scale-up and deployment of technologies that are energy-efficient and cheap, and that reduce or eliminate carbon emissions.We employ computational modeling and AI techniques such as mathematical optimization and deep reinforcement learning to develop tools for modeling complex interactions at different scales. At the process scale, we apply these tools to problems such as optimizing carbon capture and conversion technology designs, and identifying strategies for decarbonizing manufacturing. At broader scales, we focus on problems such as designing and optimizing resilient supply chains for the critical materials that clean energy technologies need to function.My goal is for my work to contribute insights that inform technology innovation and sustainable strategies for securing the supply chains for critical and other strategic materials.
