A wide variety of experiences make me flexible to solve problems. People say you are wasting your time when working for something that seems unrelated to your goal. However, I think it is always possible to get something from doing anything, as long as I know my trajectory. Therefore, I get into whatever attracts me.My first interest was cartoons. When I was in middle school, I finished 2 stories on notebooks. Each story took more than 2 notebooks. And I had dozens of other notebooks filled with sketches. This gave me basic skills in drawing. I started to play the piano when I was 9. After 15, it became more a hobby for me, and it helped me a lot when I was composing music for my first short animation. My programming skills give me advantages as well. At first, I just wants to make a “Watch Again’ button on my flash animation. After few years, I understood Objected-Oriented-Programming (OOP), and this skill gave me my first job as an UI developer. Now, this skill is helping me creating procedural animation in Maya.At the same time, I did not lose my interest in animation. Disney’s Cinderella was the first mind-blowing animation I saw before I was 10, and Toy Story occupied me during my teenage years. I was a junior in university when I first worked on animation. I was an assistant of senior film, and my first assignment was making rotoscoping animation with Adobe Flash. After that project, I had fallen into the charm of making animation. In 2009, Pixar held their 20th anniversary show in Korea. For the first time, I saw how they work in a pipeline to prepare for projects and it blew my mind. I followed their direction and made 3 minute short. It did not look perfect, but I’ve learned a lot following the pipeline from character design to sound design.So, all my previous interests have helped me to be a good animator. Still, I’m looking for something new to draw my attention.
