My subject matter expertise is in medical apps, digital health, SMART FHIR technology, and medical decision support. When I was a second year medical student, I created iMedicalApps.com, a medical app review site, in 2008. At it's peak, I grew it into the most popular digital health site created by physicians, with millions of visitors a year. With over 4,000 articles published by physicians it remains a repository of medical app reviews. I have given multiple interviews to the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and several other national and global outlets related to my subject matter experience in this area. In 2016, I leveraged my subject matter expertise of medical apps to co-create the HEART Pathway app. HEART Pathway is a chest pain clinical decision support pathway that has been clinically validated in multiple studies (including RCT) to show improved patient outcomes. This iOS app has been utilized on tens of thousands of patients across the world. I kept this application free so that anyone across the world could utilize the application in the management of chest pain patients in order to deliver superior care. Due to the popularity of our iOS clinical decision support app I co-developed the HEART Pathway SMART FHIR application in 2017. I won grant funding from Wake Innovations and NC IDEA to support this development. At the same time I raised seed funding from CoFounders Capital to commercialize our CDS SMART FHIR app. The HEART Pathway SMART FHIR app is used in 3 different health systems across 16 hospitals. There have been more than 30,000 patient as of 2021. In 2018, I co-founded EMBoard Bombs, an Emergency Medicine podcast platform. We have over 100 episodes and our podcast has been listened to over 300,000 times as of 2021. We collaborate with the American College of Emergency Physicians to provide ACEP specific educational podcasts to EM providers. We have subsequently also launched a premium version of our podcast, EM Rapid Bombs. During this time I have actively been engaged in medical student and residency education. I maintain an academic appointment at the Wake Forest School of Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine as Assistant Professor. I have given more than 20 invited lectures discussing medical apps and SMART FHIR technology across the world to multiple medical schools, informatics societies, and industry. I have actively published peer reviewed manuscripts in the space of medical apps, clinical decision support, and COVID-19.
