Hi – I am Ilze. I realised at a young age that teaching is my passion. This was evident when I would line up my toys and teach them English, mathematics or a variety of subjects, depending on what I felt like on that day.Following my studies, I started as a pre-primary schoolteacher but soon realised that I was yearning for more.Whilst investigating further options in the education profession, I was extremely fortunate to land a position at Courtney House teaching Primary Mathematics. I knew that I had found my teaching role.I have always loved mathematics; however it became increasingly clear how fundamental the correct teaching strategies were to learners gaining a correct and clear understanding of concepts. It was evident that some learners rely on rote memory without a clear understanding of the objectives.When I was afforded the opportunity to develop this series of mathematics books, I knew that I could harness my 14 years of practical teaching experience and designing material for each stage of the Cambridge Primary Programme. I had given specific attention to rehearsal of concepts taught throughout the Mathematics series to ensure that objectives are reached by the end of each stage. In addition, I provided mentorship to the teachers to ensure that concepts were fully understood, rehearsed and consolidated.The last two years have been devoted to producing a series of books for Mathematics, that encapsulate the best teaching strategies for my subject. When the learner books are used systematically, as designed, along with active learning activities, the mathematics foundation established in Stages 1- 3 will be extremely well consolidated.
