A champion of organizational and community harmony-building, I foster client-centered strategies that transform conflicts into elegant solutions. My toolbox includes keen listening skills, omnipartiality and 25 years as a conflict management professional. Promoting harmony in organizations is my life's work.As Director of Mediation for Phoenix-OAT, I have built a program aimed at improving community relationships with and faith in Phoenix police through conversations facilitated by seasoned mediators.In 2004, I founded Interaction Management Associates to foster effective conflict engagement in organizations around the world of all sizes and stages of development. We apply years of expertise, managing a wide range of disputes that evolve within organizations, including systemic employee conflicts, discrimination, disagreements with clients/consumers and public policy issues. I am also a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University and a Research Fellow and Lecturer at Nelson Mandela University, where I'm pursuing a doctorate in Development Studies. Previously, I was Acting Deputy Ombudsman for an agency of the Arizona Legislative Council. I’ve trained mediators throughout the world. I hold a Master's Degree in international administration and am a CLEAR-certified investigator. I serve on the US Postal Service Employee Mediation REDRESS panel. I was Director of Conflict Management Programs for both the Arizona Attorney General and for the Iowa Peace Institute. In the 1990s, I was also Vice President for International Services for the International Center for Community Journalism. My mediation experience includes civil rights, family and community disputes. I’ve led programs for local and international groups in sectors public and private. I’ve been a Peace Corps Volunteer, den leader, PTA president, coach and little league supporter. I've served on boards of local, national and international organizations. I was featured in the PBS documentary "The American Promise" for my work in school violence prevention. Otting served as an investigator for the Arizona Ombudsman - Citizens' Aide, an independent and impartial dispute resolver. It is the ombudsman's job to aid in the resolution of problems in a nonadversarial manner. The office is an independent agency of the Arizona Legislature. Otting handled over 700 cases per year in this capacity, with an agreement rate of over 95%. As the lead investigator, Otting authored the landmark Report of Investigation of the Arizona Medical Board, #1202725.

Director Of Conflict Management Programs
Managing a team of mediators around the state, Otting directed the conflict management program for the Arizona Attorney General's Civil Rights Division. She was responsible for 2000+ mediation cases per year, including discrimination claims through Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEOC). She also managed intergovernmental contracts to mediate cases for other state agencies, including Registrar of Contractors and Structural Pest Control. Under her direction, the program's agreement rate rose from 87% to 91% and achieved overall client satisfaction rate of 99%. Under an intergovernmental contract with the Arizona Supreme Court, she wrote curriculum for and coordinated training of mediators for courts throughout the state. She sat on Arizona Supreme Court Advisory Committees on Alternative Dispute Resolution and Domestic Relations Reform.

Directed mediation program of state agency founded by Iowa legislature and Lt. Governor. Directed school conflict resolution, general mediation training and other fee-for-service programs. Managed a team of staff mediators, trainers and student interns. Trained mediators for courts, schools and public agencies throughout the state. Developed training curriculum and manual. Responsible for providing cross-cultural and mediation training programs to international visitors, diplomats and scholars, including Under Secretary of the former Organization of African Unity (now African Union). Recruited by former Lt. Governor to launch agency aimed to build free press in post-Soviet era. Wrote successful federal grants which enabled journalism fellows from former Soviet Union to intern in community media outlets in Iowa. Recruited participants from Bulgaria, Mongolia, Ukraine, and Republic of Georgia. Worked with university professors, undergraduate students and graduate students. Directed cross-cultural training for fellows in their home countries as well as in the U.S. Responsible for placement of fellows in media outlets around the U.S. Led international journalists on field excursions to major media outlets throughout the U.S. Agency closed after grant funding from US Information Agency expired.
Small Enterprise Development
Serving the eastern Savannah Region of Togo, Otting worked with local cooperative extension agents of the Togolese Government on Small Enterprise Development Projects. The purpose of the projects were to empower farmers, weaving cooperatives and other small business enterprises and their social service providers to identify community needs and to respond to those needs with appropriate support. Ultimately, each group helped build human resources capacity for families and rural communities, in order to alleviate poverty and increase income levels of families. While there, she learned that many of the men lost their livelihood due to river blindness. Otting worked with a World Health Organization pilot who agreed to test and treat the local river for the parasite. She also worked with a German organization that helped blind farmers re-learn farming skills so that they could manage small garden plots near the river. She conducted a needs assessment, held village meetings and had widespread support of local leaders as well as the women and men of the village.
