About Kate Otting

I believe in the power of mediation to illuminate lasting and sustainable solutions to conflict that all parties can embrace. While most people fear conflict, I have witnessed individuals build confidence to engage wisely and compassionately through even the most seemingly intractable conflicts. A champion of organizational and community harmony-building, I foster client-centered strategies that transform conflicts into elegant solutions. My toolbox includes keen listening skills, omnipartiality and 25 years as a conflict management professional. Promoting harmony in organizations is my life's work.As Director of Mediation for Phoenix-OAT, I have built a program aimed at improving community relationships with and faith in Phoenix police through conversations facilitated by seasoned mediators. In 2004, I founded Interaction Management Associates to foster effective conflict engagement in organizations around the world of all sizes and stages of development.  We apply years of expertise, managing a wide range of disputes that evolve within organizations, including systemic employee conflicts, discrimination, disagreements with clients/consumers and public policy issues. I am also a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University and a Research Fellow and Lecturer at Nelson Mandela University, where I'm pursuing a doctorate in Development Studies. Previously, I was Acting Deputy Ombudsman for an agency of the Arizona Legislative Council. I’ve trained mediators throughout the world. I hold a Master's Degree in international administration and am a CLEAR-certified investigator. I serve on the US Postal Service Employee Mediation REDRESS panel. I was Director of Conflict Management Programs for both the Arizona Attorney General and for the Iowa Peace Institute.
