• Conducted industry-based research in close collaboration with oil sands operators to develop remote hyperspectral sensing methodologies for characterization of oil sands tailings• Designed and implemented protocols to execute dehydration experiments on tailings samples in the laboratory to collect a hyperspectral time series during dewatering• Developed algorithms to estimate water content, evaporation, and MBI of soft tailings from hyperspectral data• Planned and carried out field work at Shell Albian mine, Fort McMurray, to collect hyperspectral imagery from the AFD cells and analyzed the images to generate maps of tailings characteristics• Investigated the potential of hyperspectral measurements in clay characterization of oil sands • Collaborated in drafting research proposals, prepared progress reports, and presented research results to funding institutions and industry partners including IOSI, COSIA, IRC in Oil Sands Tailings Geotechnique, and Shell Canada• Published 3 journal papers and 10 conference proceedings/abstracts/posters

• Instructed the lab sections of Digital Remote Sensing and Introduction to GIS and Remote Sensing courses• Assisted students in learning ENVI and ArcGIS to analyze remote sensing and geospatial data• Supervised the laboratory, provided students with feedback and evaluated their assignments

• Wrote a successful proposal for acquiring fully polarimetric radar data through the European Space Agency• Applied genetic algorithms and neural networks for classification of polarimetric radar images• Developed codes in IDL programming language for extracting the polarimetric signature from radar data• Generated a high resolution land cover map over Tehran using radar data• Published 3 journal papers and 8 conference proceedings/abstracts
