The focus of the Village Learning Center Public Charter School (VLC-PCS) is to provide for the academic, social, physical and cultural development of all students. Our goal is to accommodate as many children as possible, especially students of African descent, members of cultural minorities and the resilient child through formal education. Subjects include math, science, the arts, cultural tutelage, entrepreneurial training, technical development and an emphasis is placed on Reading.Imani Abdullah, the Executive Director was the founder and one of three incorporators of The Village Learning Center Private School. It was a private venture that was the first religious based school to become a public charter school in the nation’s capitol.The Village Learning Center Public Charter School was established in 1998. The Village Learning Center Public Charter School set out to form a cooperative community effort. The VLCPCS administrators and staff are continuously striving toward educational cohesiveness among the child(ren)/student, parents/staff, and the broader community. Our goal is to do what will best benefit and develop the child in unity with his natural instincts and academic achievement. The mission of The Village Learning Center is to enhance the cognitive, social, physical, emotional and moral development of students. The VLC-PCS pursues its mission by providing a wholesome, progressive, and self-esteem building learning environment utilizing innovative hands-on, remedial and one-to-one instructional techniques. The VLC-PCS’s mission plan is to provide and utilize all available school and community resources to develop the resilient child. This encompasses their social, intellectual and physical development; whereby, they will be self-directed and functioning citizens.
