Co Chocolat - Finally, truly healthy chocolates

We are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), spread in various parts of the globe and we are partnering with farmers and cooperatives in the second largest island of our country -- beautiful Mindanao. The crop in current focus is CACAO mainly because of its tremendous demand in the world market. Only countries within 15 degrees up and below the equator encourage the growth of this crop and the Philippines is perfectly situated, while Mindanao has been blessed to have experienced very minimal typhoons in the last decade making the temperate 20 to 32 degree Cen weather ideal for growing cacao, which is the main ingredient of chocolate and chocolate flavor. A shortfall of one ton of cacao is forecasted by the year 2020. These factors plus the relative price stability of cacao encourage investment to both crop and said location. Alongside our goal of earning profits is an earnest desire to alleviate poverty experienced by Mindanao smallholding farmers via an equitable means of doing business. We have heard of one too many stories of unfair contract farming, loan-sharks and other unfair business practices, and we oppose this. However, we are also NOT a charity institution. It has to be remembered that the money we propose to invest was actually earned by leaving our country and family. Our proposed system is fairly simple: let's work on the farm together -- PARTNERS.
