Developing a Landscape design Solution to Mitigate Air Pollutants in Surat City : Project team: Imran mansuri | Sanal Thathapuzha | Santosh Yadav (Sanal Aparna Associates) Under the Indo German Development Cooperation, a Study and Expert Funds (SEF) project on “Support to the National Clean Air Programme” is being implemented by GIZ. The project has the objective, “Prerequisites for the strategic and operational implementation of India’s National Clean Air Programme to effectively combat air pollution in selected cities are strengthened”. The partner to the project is the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. In collaboration with GIZ and Surat Municipal Corporation, the Project includes identifying the pollution hotspots and then giving landscaping solutions to reduce the pollution in the hotspot regions. Based on the identified pollution hotspots, solutions were given for two pilot sites which are Canal Road (west side of the city) and Triangular common open area in Pandesara Industrial Estate. In addition to the process of identifying the two sites to execute native plantation, our team prepared a detailed catalog of the native trees categorized in three distinct local habitats based on the geographical and climatic conditions.

Imran was associated with Atkin Olshin Schade Architects, a progressive Santa Fe architecture, planning and historic preservation firm, from March 2010 to April 2017. He was involved in measuring and documenting several Pueblo structures for housing rehabilitation and renovation work. Projects include Sandia Pueblo housing renovation, Santo Domingo roof stabilization, Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo housing rehabilitation project and Santa Ana Church renovation. Imran was the firm’s Revit captain, trained AOS’s staff and managed the sophisticated computer modeling for all of the firm’s projects. He frequently managed consultant teams for projects of varying size and complexity.

Imran was working with Scott Carlson as an Architectural Intern & Landscape Architect Intern on projects includes residential and institutional landscape design and urban design proposals. The main focus of the work includes compilation and research on alternative construction techniques and green sustainable practices considering climatic conditions in the south-western arid region of the USA. Imran was actively involved with green infrastructure planning, Xeriscape practice in New Mexico, New Mexico native plant society and alternative construction techniques to promote, educate, and increase awareness while working in the profession.

Imran worked as a computer and print lab assistant administrator at the School of Architecture + Planning during academic sessions.

Imran worked with Professor Chris Wilson as a graduate assistant on documentation of the historical plazas in New Mexico during academic sessions.

Imran was working with Douglas Porter; faculty at The School of Engineering at the University of Vermont, collaborating with staff from the Pecos National Park Service, NM in a field school program involving conservation of cultural landscape, research, millwork training, photo documentation and implementation in restoring historic windows at the Forked Lightning Ranch at Pecos National Historical Park designed by John Gaw Meem in1925.

Imran worked as an intern architect on design problems, construction details, presentation drawings, final construction drawings and coordination with consultants’ drawings mainly for educational buildings.

Imran worked as an architect involved in the design and execution of architectural and landscape projects, specific buildings including a diamond polishing unit, old age homes, farmhouse and community hall. Imran coordinated with various consultants on architectural projects of various complexities and administered trainees on various aspects of design and construction problems in a team environment. Imran also supervised projects periodically at sites.

During this period, Imran worked on the research and documentation of various architectural projects involving categorization of various documented academic works by students and faculty members.

During this period, Imran was posted at the site office in Kolkata for the project UDAYAN, which is a large scale housing project consisting of various categories of flats, residents’ club, commercial building, row houses, inter building landscape design and external work etc.
