Postdoc, California Institute For Quantitative Biosciences
University Of California, Berkeley Feb 2017 - Apr 2021
    Berkeley, Ca, Us
I developed a near infrared two-photon microscope to image neurotransmitter concentrations in living brains.
  • University Of California, Berkeley
    Instructor Of Record
University Of California, Berkeley Jun 2020 - Aug 2020
    Berkeley, Ca, Us
I was the instructor of record for MCB/PSYCH C64, "Introduction to Neuroscience." The course was 3 units and I taught 57 students with the help of 1 teaching assistant. I was responsible for writing 16 lectures, 6 quizzes, and 2 exams for this condensed 8 week semester course at UC Berkeley. The course was taught remotely and utilized in-class group work and two-phase exams. My student reviews are fantastic and am happy to share them as requested.
  • Jki
    Program Engineer
    Jki Nov 2015 - Feb 2017
    Lafayette, Ca, Us
I wrote embedded programming for our consulting clients. Projects ranged over a variety of applications from microscopy to biotech to solar energy. My Physics and Biology laboratory background was a huge asset to quickly understand a client's project and needs.
  • Usc Center For Electron Microscopy And Microanalysis
    Research Assistant
Usc Center For Electron Microscopy And Microanalysis Jun 2012 - Aug 2015
    Los Angeles, Ca, Us
I was a staff super user and functioned as an SEM Applications Scientist for JEOL-6610 and JEOL-7001 scanning electron microscopes. Trained new users, ran samples for industry and academic partners, troubleshot problems, consulted on experiment design. Also wrote a new technical manual for users. I have applications experience with a range of samples from biological, to semiconductive, to metallic in nature.
  • Usc Center For Electron Microscopy And Microanalysis
    Phd Researcher
Usc Center For Electron Microscopy And Microanalysis Jun 2009 - Aug 2015
    Los Angeles, Ca, Us
My dissertation centered around utilizing the diverse respiration pathways of bacteria Shewanella ANA-3 and related sp. strains to synthesize semiconducting nanostructures at physiological temperatures and pHs. I determined the biologic pathways for production and measured the structural, crystallographic, electronic, and band gap properties of the resulting arsenic sulfide nanofibers. Additionally I incorporated these nanofibers in semiconductive devices. http://nanobio.usc.edu/Paper:http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1742706114004978Publicity:http://www.materialstoday.com/biomaterials/news/bacteriaenabled-nanofiber-fets/http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/suffocating-cells-science/
  • Aveson Global Leadership Academy Charter School
    Elective Advisor
Aveson Global Leadership Academy Charter School Oct 2014 - Jan 2015
I taught math and science to 6th to 12th graders as we worked through various science labs once a week. I personally designed the course and lesson plans to introduce the students to experimental science, data collection, and graphical analysis.
  • Wyatt Technology
    R&D Engineering Intern
    Wyatt Technology Sep 2008 - Feb 2009
    Goleta, Ca, Us
Worked in R&D on the company's scientific instrument products. Tasked with a variety of projects including early instrument prototyping, optimizing various internal procedures of a marketed instrument, and programming a simulation of a new product.
  • Cynvenio Biosystems, Inc.
    Software Consultant (Labview)
Cynvenio Biosystems, Inc. Jun 2008 - Jul 2008
Wrote LabVIEW code from the ground up to run their early scientific instrument prototype. Device tested antibody adhesion to cells using magnetic beads and microfluidics. Created and included friendly scripting language for their R&D team to make alterations to their experimental protocol on the fly. Code was written to run on a cRIO FPGA from National Instruments.
  • Ucsb - Department Of Physics And Astronomy
    Undergraduate Research Assistant
Ucsb - Department Of Physics And Astronomy Apr 2006 - Jun 2008
    Santa Barbara, Ca, Us
Became familiar with condensed mater research in a traditional Physics lab under Prof. David Awschalom. While in the group I worked with AFMs, MFMs, spectrometers, various optics, variable wave plates, cryostats, lasers, and an optical tweezers setup. This work culminated into my senior thesis: “Whispering Gallery Modes in Microdisks Featuring Basins and Trenches” in which I used a Focused Ion Beam (FIB) to etch away the centers of prefabricated microdisks to constrain the resident light to the outer geometry of the disk.
