Senior Archaeologist
Isabel Cordova has over 10 years of experience in cultural resources management throughout California and the Great Lakes region. In addition to a strong background in all phases of archaeological fieldwork, research, and curation practices, Isabel meets national standards in archaeology set by the Secretary of Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation. She has authored numerous Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement sections, cultural resource evaluations, technical reports, tribal consultation documents, and record searches. Isabel’s experience also includes managing subconsultants, reviewing deliverables, and promoting archaeology to the public. She also specializes in ceramic analysis, including production and identification. She holds an M.A. in Anthropology from California State University, Northridge and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Michigan, and she has been on the Register of Professional Archaeologists since 2011. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering for the Human Rights Campaign, hiking throughout the backcountry of San Diego, and traveling.
Principal Investigator/Senior Scientist I
As the Principal Investigator/Project Archaeologist, main duties included responsibility for all project components in the San Diego office. This included writing and responding to project proposals, creating scope of work documents, creating and certifying budgets, writing technical reports for all phases of fieldwork and tribal consultation, and project completion reports. Ms. Cordova regularly performed research and significance evaluations of cultural resources, as well as developed appropriate mitigation measures. She worked with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure project cohesion and that all regulations were followed by all parties, including local RPOs, CEQA, AB 52, SB 18 and NHPA/Section 106/110, and NEPA. She also effectively managed sub-consultants on projects and ensured budgets and work expectations were met. I worked on a number of projects simultaneously as well as continually worked towards additional business development.
Senior Archaeologist/Principal Investigator
As Senior Archaeologist at PanGIS (DBE) I currently work on projects throughout Southern California. Main responsibilities include authoring technical reports regarding Section 106/NHPA, CEQA, and NEPA compliance. Other duties include supervising crewmembers on fieldwork such as pedestrian survey, evaluation testing, and data recovery on multiple major projects simultaneously. I also perform research studies on project areas, develop project paradigms and evaluations, and organize work related community events. I work closely with clients to ensure project cohesion and completion.As Field Director for the San Diego Gas & Electric Cultural Resources On Call contract and Principal Investigator for 4 years, guided and reviewed an archaeological data recovery and monitoring plan of the approved southern route of the Sunrise Powerlink 230-kV/500-kV transmission line project in compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA and CEQA. Additionally, guided and reviewed medium- to small-scale archaeological surveys for replacement of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) wood utility poles with steel utility poles (FiRM Project). Managed small-scale surveys, evaluation testing and monitoring of pole, facility replacement locations and pipeline installation related to regular operations and maintenance. This work was done to assist SDG&E and in their compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA, NEPA and CEQA. Guided and reviewed records search requests, Class III intensive field surveys, evaluation testing, construction monitoring, and reviewed reporting of findings, as well as prepared or approved recommendations for the utility companies for avoiding impacts to cultural resources within company easements and access roads, as well as projects located within Bureau of Land Management, County of San Diego, City of San Diego and private property. Worked directly with utility staff to ensure avoidance of impacts to archaeological sites located near poles or associated facilities.
Associate Archaeologist/Field Director
As Field Director for the San Diego Gas & Electric Cultural Resources Major Projects contract, guided and reviewed an archaeological survey, data recovery and monitoring plan of the approved East County Substation Project in compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA and CEQA. Lead survey, testing, and data recovery crews for medium to large environmental projects to ensure compliance of CEQA and NHPA for public utility companies in the Greater San Diego and Imperial Counties.
