During my 6-week public health field study at Clinic By The Bay (CBTB), I worked under the supervision of Dr. David Goldschmid, M.D., and Dr. Adriee Wong, DDS. CBTB is a free clinic serving medically underserved working adults in the San Francisco Bay Area. My primary role was to create a patient priority list for their new dental program, focusing on individuals with significant health criteria such as A1c > 7% and living with diabetes. To achieve this, I conducted a comprehensive literature review on oral health disparities and developed a point system for prioritizing patients. This work addressed public health competencies including data analysis, program planning, and tackling health disparities. I utilized the AthenaOne medical system to generate detailed patient reports and presented my findings to the CBTB medical board, demonstrating the integration of evidence-based practices in improving dental care access for underserved populations.

During my service year, I worked at the Ashby Health Center focusing on family health, chronic care management, and wellness promotion. I was a case manager for our pediatric patients, facilitated virtual Tai Chi and Meditation/Mindfulness classes, and provided health coaching (diabetes, hypertension, and smoking cessation) to patients. Additionally, I supported Lifelong's Covid-19 Vaccine clinics by scheduling appointments and as an observer providing health education and supporting our health maintenance program by collecting A1C levels from diabetic patients and ordering stool tests for colon cancer screening or submitting referrals for a colonoscopy.

As a certified online TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher, I connect with Chinese students ages 4-12. I review the pre-made slides prior to each lesson and design a reward system for my students. During class I guide students through the lesson, using a total physical response teaching method. After class, I write evaluations of my student's progress and submit reports to their family.

Conducted primary source research titled "Family Support and Perceptions Among Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders” in affiliation with the University of Philippines College of Special Education, UNICEF-Philippines, and local community-based rehabilitation centers. Employed qualitative field research using semi-structured interviews and observational analysis to assess the effectiveness of community-based rehabilitation programs provided to children with cerebral palsy living in geographically isolated and disadvantaged regions of Luzon (Metro Manila, Bulacan, Zambales, Bicol, and Cavite). Compiled data from previous studies and composed comparative reports. Final Research Project titled “Enabling the Disabled : The Impact of Community-Based Rehabilitation Services for Children with Cerebral Palsy Living in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas” was presented at the Philippine-American Education Foundation in Makati and at the Legacy Research Institute in Portland, Oregon. Attended conferences, seminars, and workshops on pediatric medicine, neurology, and public health.

The Devers Eye Institute (DEI) is an NIH funded laboratory that studies glaucomatous vision loss, a major cause of blindness worldwide. I began working at DEI's Optic Nerve Head Research Lab (ONHRL) at the Legacy Research Institute in Portland, Oregon during my junior year of college. In this role, I manually delineated tissue landmarks within the optic nerve head (ONH) and identified axons,astrocytes, microglia, and macrophages within serial block face electron microscopy volumes.
