I have finally said it, I am a writer, and though I say with a degree of embarrassment also, I am an incredibly talented poet. That, is not a grandiose statement of self worth, more a defeated inability to surpress the least useful talent of modern times in the hope it would reinvent itself and emerge as a great voice, or champion sportsperson. Even an ability to juggle would have been preferable in my eyes. But after 40+ years of trying to swap my talent into something marketable, useful or in any way sexy, I must admit defeat and acknowledge the situation for what it is. Poetry, for some reason I can rock out a master poem on any subject you want and incorporating ANYTHING you like in a couple of minutes to an hour. Those of you who have read them will agree the funny ones will make you belly laugh uncontrollably and the sad ones lead to uncontrollable sobbing in even the hardest badass out there! All this would be far more impressive were there a prime time market for The X-poet Factor or America's got Poems.... Till then I guess Shakespeare continues to rest easy and I shall continue to stretch that talent into fictional novels.Significantly more challenging than spewing out wonderful poems, but worlds better than my career which involved great effort in suppressing my ever expanding imagination for fear of being judged, labelled and even worse medicated into the grey world of Stepford and psychiatric and societal 'norms' and parameters of acceptable behaviour. No more of that, for now, I embrace the journey into my new career of writing. Please feel free to join me, to enjoy my ability to splash uncoordinated random colours and sometimes magical possibility over the grey world of predictability that you have been tricked into accepting.
