Model-turned actress, filmmaker, mental health advocate, and human rights activist, Shreya Patel is a voice for empowering the underdog. She has dedicated her life to not only a professional career in film & fashion but also in social work. She is a honouree of the Forbes Under 30 (Media), Top 100 Most Powerful Women of Canada (Arts, Sports, and Entertainment Category), Women's Achiever Award - Youth Leadership, Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards (Creative Impact), and Emerging Leader Under 35. She also gained an honourable mention by the City of Toronto for advancing equity in the city. DissDash named her “Top 50 Coolest South Asians of 2021” along with Priyanka Chopra, Kamala Harris, and Hasan Minaj. Shreya is a social entrepreneur who directed, produced, wrote, and edited a documentary called Girl Up, about domestic human trafficking which started the conversation on how to combat human trafficking, nationally. The film went on to partner with Toronto International Film Festival and the Civic Action Summit.In 2018 to present, she appeared in the Award-Winning mental health awareness campaign “Bell Let’s Talk”, raising visibility and breaking the silence around mental illness and support. She has been recognized by Global Affairs Canada for her mental health activism.During COVID, she gathered 66 countries and made a documentary called Unity- #LOVESPREADS Faster Than Virus showcasing the plight of the human spirit which was the closing film at the Munich International Film Festival. It also explores the disparity that exists between industrialized and developing nations.Her second project during the pandemic is directing a music video called Freedom Dance for the talented Indian musician, Faynax which hit over 1.2 million views on YouTube making it viral. Rolling Stones India has reported about this music video too.Outside media production and social activism, Shreya is also an actress. She's the graduate of the Second CIty Conservatory and can be seen perform improv and sketch comedy around the City of Toronto. Shreya has appeared in lead roles in numerous films, theatre productions, and most recently in Andre Rehal's Strangers in a Room, Azaadi 1981, Netflix's Grand Army, and FX's Mrs. America. Her first film role in Vivid helped garner the film multiple award nominations. She is currently writing a comedy show called Layla is Relevant as well as a film about domestic human trafficking.
