About Ina Valkanova
I am an architect and urban researcher. I am currently part of the LUS Landscape and Urban Studies Doctoral Program in ETH Zurich My research explores the relationship between production and place on the case study of Trakiya Economic Zone in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The project aims to develop a better understanding of the global and local processes in industrial development and find sustainable ways for the future of industrial zones. I was also a coordinator for investment and innovation of the long long-term development strategy of Sofia - Vision for Sofia 2050, which aims to improve the mechanism of urban planning by including all interest groups from the very beginning in the decision-making process. Before this, I served as the director of the international architecture festival “One Architecture Week” in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. I have taught at the University of Architecture in Sofia and has lectured in various European locations, such as Copenhagen Architecture Week and Belgrade International Architecture Week, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT and TU Berlin. In 2020 I founded the collective GRADOSCOPE with the aim to develop alternative planning practices and projects.
