Technical MarketingCloudera Mar 2020 - Feb 2022Santa Clara, California, UsDay to day, I created unique and interesting technical demo and marketing material for Cloudera users around the world. This material took many forms, but the main focus was creating digestible self-contained demos that used the Cloudera Data Platform to accomplish some kind of real-life workload.I worked as part of a team that created videos, tutorials, blogs, and meetups about these real-world use cases. The goal was to showcase Cloudera's data platform's abilities to users who might not have had easy access to it.In addition to creating demos and videos, I also presented these topics live on a monthly basis, walking through a demonstration live and participating in a Q&A session afterward. -
Turbine Performance EngineerBelcan Sep 2016 - Mar 2020Cincinnati, Oh, UsAfter having worked on our in house Fleet Development and Analysis Platform meant to track military jet engine performance and learning an incredible amount about jet engine performance thanks to a wonderful mentor, I transitioned to being an expert analyst in charge of monitoring fleets of military jet engines and reporting on any performance or maintenance related issues. When issues were found in the field, I was responsible for collecting and presenting the data to sometimes less technical people. Since my actions often had high costs impact, there was often pushback and questioning which made it very important that my suggestions were both based on data and also clearly presented.Over the course of 3.5 years I had over a hundred actionable alerts with some of them being potential life saving situations as there are many military aircraft that run only a single engine. I was also fortunate enough to be tasked with developing some advanced engine control models which was an exciting cross between my software experience and my in depth jet propulsion knowledge. -
Software EngineerBelcan Sep 2014 - Sep 2016Cincinnati, Oh, UsKicked off my career in the aerospace field creating engineering based custom applications for military jet engines that tracked parts, analyzed engine performance, categorized streaming data and fault codes, as well as tracked part maintenance and repair across fleets of 5000+ engines operating all around the world. Every program was created in house and all databases/processes were maintained by our group of 10-15 engineers. Most applications were written in C#/.net framework and the backend was all MS SQL. Having full database admin responsibilities as well as being responsible for maintaining a development/staging/production environment all in sync was quite the challenge. The end goal of our suite of programs was to help Pratt and Whitney develop and track their various fleets of military and commercial jet engines through what we called the Fleet Development Analysis Platform. -
American Institute Of Aeronautics And Astronautics - Vice PresidentUniversity Of Central Florida May 2013 - May 2014Orlando, Fl, UsAs vice-president I became in charge of a large portion of the group's responsibilities, as well as being the public face for many funding and student outreach events. On the technical side, I was responsible for leading the senior design team that consisted of 10 final year students participating in the Design, Build, Fly competition. This meant leading on the technical aspects of aircraft design, with my main responsibility being aerodynamics analysis through the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, but also having a hand in structural design as well as the propulsion design. In addition to the technical challenges, I was also responsible for controlling the project budget of $10,000, which had to be properly tracked and reported as we were using funds granted to us by outside companies. We also did many outreach and social events to get young students interested in STEM, such as going to elementary schools and doing fun simple science projects with the students and hosting fun engineering based competitions on campus during things like Engineering week. -
Undergraduate ResearcherUniversity Of Central Florida May 2013 - May 2014Orlando, Fl, UsTook a small satellite that had been developed over several years by other researchers and repaired/modified it with the goal of furthering testing the satellite's intended function of low current attitude control using induction coils and the earth's magnetic field. We were selected for NASA's Parabolic Flight campaign and were able to successfully test the satellite's performance over the course of ~160 zero-g flight maneuvers. -
American Institute Of Aeronautics And Astronautics - Project LeadUniversity Of Central Florida May 2012 - May 2013Orlando, Fl, UsOrganized a group of ~50 students to undertake a small satellite project (cubesat) with the goal of creating a technical paper and satellite design that would win us funding to build the satellite in the future. Discussed various aspects of subsystem designs as well as potential scientific goals of our envisioned satellite but unfortunately the competition was cancelled. -
Program Manager42Nd Space Congress May 2012 - Dec 2012Collected ~30 white papers and abstracts surrounding space related technology and led the selection process to choose 11 presentations for the Canaveral Council of Technical Societies' 42nd Space Congress(R). Also was the Master of Ceremonies and introduced each presenter to the audience as well as guiding the conference guests.https://commons.erau.edu/space-congress-proceedings/proceedings-2012-42nd/
