Grant Research, Writing & Consultation

Working with and building coalitions to advocate for smoking prevention & cessation, and smoke free air throughout Indiana. Supporting 12 Indiana Black Expo, Inc. chapters with program and organization development through assessment and technical assistance.

Research and write grants to private and community foundations and government entities. Manage supervisory program staff. Develop and facilitate public education workshops and staff trainings. Write policies and procedures, Memorandum of Understanding documents with community partners, contracts for contractors (ex. direct service providers, web designer, and network specialist), web content and marketing materials. Assist in the development of organization newsletter and special event planning. Represent the organization on various task force and committees.

Loose Ends, Inc. located; Type of Agency: Small business Duties: Write grant and bid proposals for small businesses and non-profit agencies. Design and conduct various training programs. Perform other necessary duties in the operation of a business such as marketing, website maintenance, financial management, and contract negotiation.

Type of Agency: Community CollegeDuties: Provided classroom instruction to students obtaining Associate degrees in addiction counseling and social services. Worked on various projects in which normal internal resources were not available, such as design and implementation of workshops, design of competency test, and an analysis of enrollment data.

Type of Agency: Advocacy agency for abused and neglected childrenDuties: Worked on various projects in which normal internal resources were not available, such as grant writing, preparation of agency personnel manual, and coordination or volunteer orientation.

Type of Agency: State agency mandated to serve truant and delinquent youth Duties: Administrator - Managed several statewide units including Contract & Program Development, Licensing & Monitoring, and Foster Care. Responsibilities entailed: developing and training personnel; approving solicitation and bid documents; presenting and providing recommendations to the Maryland Board of Public Works; educating potential vendors and vendors; and developing foster care services. Program Specialist - Managed the Baltimore City Foster Care Program for youth under the care and supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Responsibilities entailed: writing grants and solicitations; developing policies and procedures; training foster parents; monitoring and evaluating foster care homes; and facilitating foster home placements.Juvenile Counselor - Managed and coordinated community-based and residential services for delinquent youth. Responsibilities entailed: conducting court-ordered investigations/assessments, writing other court reports, supervising and counseling youth, counseling families and significant others of youth, coordinating community-based and residential services for youth, making appropriate referrals and working with other service providers.

Type of Agency: State agency mandated to serve abused and neglected youth and their familiesDuties: Investigated complaints of child neglect and abuse and supported youth placed on an emergency basis in shelter homes and facilities. Responsibilities entailed: report writing; presenting formal recommendations to the Court; counseling; coordinating placements; and authorizing payments to foster parents.
