Renewables First provides consultancy, design, planning and project management services for small and medium scale hydropower and wind energy projects. My role was to project manage wind turbine planning applications, complete feasibility assessments and post-planning tasks.Key roles:• Project manage preparation of planning application including writing aviation, radar and communications appendices and preparing community consultation letters and communicating with any resulting responses• Complete various feasibility assessments including: physical constraint mapping, designation constraint mapping, planning sensitivity assessments (designed by Renewables First), planning review of local planning policy• Preparing a variety of maps using MapInfo• Preparing tender proposals• Regular use of the following: Salesforce, Timesheet Xpress, MapInfo, Google Earth, MS Office, Dropbox

Mi-Grid provides feasibility and planning services to landowners, developers and community groups for renewable energy projects. The core focus of the business is small to medium scale wind energy, supported by large scale wind developments and some solar projects. The company is also moving into the hydro market and looking to expand its own portfolio of renewable energy projects.My main role was to prepare and collate planning documents to be submitted to Local Planning Authorities.Key roles:- Compilation and submission of planning documents to be submitted to Local Planning Authorities including: design and access statements, noise assessments, ecology surveys, historic and geophysical reports, shadow flicker reports, flood risk assessments etc.- Undertaking full feasibility assessments including: constraint mapping, EMI checks, grid connection requests, aviation and radar assessments, submitting EIA screening requests- Liasing with sub-consultants, case officers, consultees and clients- Preparing a variety of maps using MapInfo- Regular use of the following: Google Docs, Capsule CRM, Dropbox, MS Word, Google Earth, MapInfo, MS Excel

During the summer I had a paid work placement at SIAC where my main role was to send desktop assessments to contacts, detailing wind speeds on their site and payback periods. I spent a lot of time talking with customers and potential customers on the phone and helping to resolve their enquiries with either my knowledge or by directing them to the appropriate colleague. I also spent some time helping to develop content for the company’s new website, much of which was well received and can be found on the website. During my time there I was usually the only person in the wind energy section of the office, so I had to be motivated and take initiative when there was little to do.
