Project Manager, Scientech ManagerFibrenamics Jan 2021 - Jun 2023Guimarães, Braga, PortugalCoordination of 4 different collaborative projects with companies, in the area of fibrous materials and composites for various smart solutions: LH4Auto, ProtechMask, 4noPressure and PluriProtech. Technology transfer from a lab-scale proof-of-concept to a final product to be commercialised by the promoter company by the end of the project. Definition and writing of mid-term techno-scientific reports to be evaluated by the National Innovation Agency (ANI). New idea conception, consortium mounting and writing of 6 project proposals for National and European funding. -
Postdoctoral ResearcherUcibio Jan 2018 - Dec 2020Lisbon Area, PortugalAs part of the Biomolecular Engineering Lab, I worked under the ERC-funded project "SCENT - Hybrid Gels for Rapid Microbial Detection", contributing to the development of an electronic nose based on novel gas-sensitive materials: - Study of supramolecular interactions in ionogels and hybrid gels, using a combination of experimental and computational techniques - Study and use of different biopolymers for the development of smart responsive gels - Development of different functional biomaterials as sensors of our electronic nose, in a way to enhance the detection of volatile organic compounds - Protocol implementation and process definition. - Writing of reports to be evaluated by the European Research Council (ERC). - New idea conception and writing of a project proposal for European funding. - Laboratory work, data treatment and discussion of results with team. -
Marie Curie Research Fellow - Phd CandidateUniversity Of Strathclyde Nov 2013 - May 2017Glasgow, United KingdomAs a PhD student in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, I took leadership of an innovative challenging project, which involved the use of molecular self-assembly of short peptide amphiphiles for the production of designed tunable hydrogels and emulsifiers:- Synthesised, developed and characterised peptide-based hydrogelators via enzyme-triggered self-assembly into nanofibres - Proved the new concept of creating responsive and tunable emulsifiers, whereby interfacial peptide nanofibrous networks stabilise oil-in-water droplets when an enzymatic stimulus is used- Used molecular dynamics simulations to gain further understanding of the supramolecular non-covalent interactions responsible for the self-assembly process both in aqueous and biphasic systems and to explore new opportunities of co-assemblyI developed my time and task management skills by setting specific objectives for my research and by working as a team member for my individual project. As a perfectionist, I managed to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines without compromising the quality of research/writing.As being a member of the organising committee of one conference, of the ACS and by supervising a master student, I further developed my organisational and leadership skills.I published some articles in peer-reviewed journals.I presented my work as oral talk in the MRS Spring Meeting & Exhibit 2016 (Phoenix, USA) and as posters at several international conferences. I networked and discussed Science thoroughly with top researchers in the area as part of the SMARTNET European network of SMARTNET (“Soft Materials Advanced Training Network”) European Initial Training Network Funded by EC 7th Framework Programme of the European Community.I was awarded with two travel grants (from WestChem and the Scotland section of RSC, respectively) to support a research placement in the ASRC of the City University of New York and to attend the MRS Spring Exhibit Meeting in Phoenix, USA. -
