Teacher
Teaching English, to adults in London, as a foreign language to class sizes varying between 1 – 26 students. - The nationalities in each class varied hugely with adults from around the world coming to study at the English studio.- I received employee of the month in one of my first months of employment and had a student satisfaction rate of 83% which was one of the highest in the company. - I was given the role of team leader for the YES (Young English Studio) in the summer whereby I had to lead and coordinate teenagers from around the world coming to London to live, study and explore. I was required to live with the students alongside my co-worker and we were responsible for as many as 30 teenagers at a time.. - Aside from YES, my primary duties at the English studio were to train students for monthly exams, including the IELTS Academic exam which permits foreign students entrance into English speaking universities. - The following aspects; grammar, pronunciation with phonetics, vocabulary, lexical knowledge and exam techniques using a coursebook, are all aspects of my classes that I prepared on a daily basis for my students. This was supplemented with numerous games and activities created by myself to ensure that students were fully engaged at all times.
Teacher
- During my time with Fun Language I gained experience teaching children across all levels (Kindergarten, primary and secondary). I also taught a variety of courses including phonics and conversation.- I was permanently based at five different schools where my classes varied in size from 9 – 42 students.- I also participated in FLIT day camps which consist of tuition in the mornings and arts, crafts and games in the afternoons as well as booths and holiday programmes. I also worked FLWC (Fun Language Weekend Club) on Sundays.- My time in Bangkok required me to be an extremely adaptable teacher due to the differing nature of class levels, sizes and courses. I also needed to maintain an extremely organized approach with regard to the preparation of my lesson plans and teaching materials. I was always a proactive and reliable member of staff having not taken any days sick or leave of absence in my year here and I have excellent references from Fun Language that can be provided upon request.
Company Director
THE DISCOUNT SOCIETY March 2013. - The general principal of our business was to help people save money who were living in the surrounding communities’. Customers who bought and showed our Discount society cards in our affiliated local businesses were entitled to discounts and deals in places such as: Pubs, Hair Salons, Restaurants, Taxi Companies and many more. - Businesses would offer our members discounts and deals because we provided them with free advertising via a number of different outlets including; our website (www.thediscountsociety.com), leaflets and posters displayed in affiliated local businesses, and at all local events.- We would sell The Discount Society membership cards at a cost of £10. We sold over 200 cards on our successful launch night at the Village Hall Restaurant (which was covered by the Buckinghamshire Advertiser and The Bucks Free Press).- We continued to sell our membership cards at a number of other outlets and events around the local area. - I had to employ a number of staff to help sell The Discount Society membership cards and obviously recruit companies over the telephone too using a telephone script. - I had to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills when meeting managers and owners of companies that we wanted to recruit as a part of The Discount Society.- Starting my own business (alongside my co-founder Mark Stack) required a huge amount of stamina, drive and determination. I have now relinquished my role as Director to start a career in teaching.
