Domestic violence (DV) and intimate partner violence (IPV) is defined as intentional, targeted intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one person against another (adult to adult, adult to child, adolescent to adult). DV/IPV includes physical violence, sexual violence, physical and psychological threats, stalking, and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence/intimate partner violence varies dramatically from community to community, and state to state. Did you know that in Colorado, 36.8% of our women experience IPV (intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking) at some point in their lives? Did you know that men are increasingly and frequently subject to DV and IPV. Fifteen percent of homicides in Colorado were committed by intimate partners. One in four women in the United States have experienced some form of sexual coercion and victimization at some point in their lifetime? ​NO adult or child – in Colorado – should live in fear of intimidation, abuse, and neglect.
